Beanie has a lump
« on: June 23, 2008, 09:26:51 AM »
Hi,

Just wondered if anyone had a similar experience.  My girl Beanie she has a lump appeared above her right fore leg just behind where her collar sits.  It's about 2 inches across and quite raised.  She is not sore with it at all. I have tried to find an entry point but there isn't one.

Do you think I should take her to the vet or give it a few days and see what happens.

Would really appreciate some advice.

Many thanks.

It sounds like an abcess.  I should take her to the vet.

Charley had something similar last year.  It appeared on the back of his neck quite suddenly.  Vet diagnosed an abcess and prescribed antibiotics.  Next day it burst and I bathed it with salt water.  Cleared up after about a week.

Probably as well to get it checked out  ;) ...hope she is ok.

Georgie had two lumps in different places, one hard and one squishy and they were both ok, the hard one (sebaceous cyst) has gone down significantly in time and the soft one is a fatty lump, so not always something to worry about  ;)

...hope she is ok  :luv:

Hi
I would always get any lumps checked out, I hope it is nothing serious. Let us know how you get on.

Thanks everyone.  I took her to the vets and the vet said it was full of pus, she lanced it but she wants to operate on her tomorrow to make sure that it is not a grass seed as she thinks there may be a foreign body as she can feel a nobbly bit just above the swelling.  Although there was no obvious entry point of a grass seed or anything else.

I haven't stopped bawling since we got back from the vets as I'm not sure I quite trust them.  Whenever I we have been up to them for anything, they always seem to be pushing some kind of surgery onto me (as soon as they find out Beanie is insured).  I really don't want to put my dog through the GA unless really necessary.  I am probably just being pathetic and I guess it is better to be safe than sorry.  Sorry for rambling!

Is there another vet locally where you could get a second opinion?
I'm sure your vet wouldn't put Beanie under anaethestic without good cause but if you are not happy then I would go to another one.

Hope Beanie is OK. I would probably be as worried as you are but you are entitled to question your vet if you arn't sure if an operation is necessary. Thinking about you.
