Spots on tummy.
« on: July 04, 2009, 06:06:20 PM »
Hi all,

Our 13 week old pup keeps getting spots on her tummy. They get pus in them (much like a whitehead).
Does anyone have any advice on what could be causing them?

Regards

Mike

Don't know what causes them but there have been a lot of threads with puppies with the same thing. Belle had them occasionally between 8 and 12 weeks, i bathed them in a little diluted antiseptic but really they went on their own, hope this helps.

Rodaidh had something similar just after I got him, I took him to the vet and they said it was probably caused by a grass allergy. I bathed them with dilute hibiscrub and they cleared up after about a week. If they persist I would take her to the vet to get them looked at but otherwise they should clear up pretty soon.

I hope this is of some help....

I  know of this problem this is what a friend was advised....

The pup was put on a course of antibiotics as its a type of skin infection (maybe pyoderma) seen in young and old dogs. Whilst the pup was on antibiotics they creamed well with aloe vera as often as pup would allow.... By the end of week the pus had turned to a scabbed look, bathed at end of week and it fell away, the skin still looked pink but kept up with the aloe and you wouldnt of known, some say sudercream is also very effective

Good luck x

I don't think anti'bs are needed for a few little spots! Even human babys get these from time to time. Antibiotics are over used IMO.

Especially in animals, they get an antibiotic shot with everything at the vets don't they >:( >:( ;)

in the original post it didn't mention how many spots.....I do agree that antibiotics can be over used in young dogs.  But it is down to each vet to guide owners, In my friends case that dogs tummy was covered.

If you are that concerned I would see what your vet says, after all they are a professional!

My pups had spots on their tummies when they were very young and it was a bacterial infection which required oral antibiotics and a topical cream. But mostly just something with antiseptic properties can clear these things up.
Just keep an eye on pup and if she looks unwell take her to vets for a check.

Hi,
Thanks for all your replies.
We have been putting antiseptic cream on her spots and they are clearing up nicely now.
I think that it must be a grass allergy.

One of ours had a rash and was allergic to the fabric conditioner on her blankets
