I'm sorry about this Jo.  How on earth are you supposed to keep him crate rested for a year though  :o

Its a completely ridiculous suggestion IMHO which would have a severe impact on his mental and emotional development.

How awful for you and Seth...  :'(

For all his health issues, he is definately a lucky little dog in one respect - he has you and Mez!!!  - you may have had a different future planned for him, but at least you know you will do everything you can to give him a full and happy life... other owners may not have been so dedicated.   :-\

I have decided me and Seth are going to be professional scurry participants at country fairs and hes going to win me lots of money  :luv: :005:

Im devastated for him and being honest for me that hes not going to work but hes still going to be trained for it a hopefully can do a few drives or half days out.

So long as he can be a normal dog for a very long amount of time il be happy.

Oh Jo I'm really sorry to hear about Seth - I know how much you were looking forward to working him.  It seems that there is no guarantee for even the most well bred dogs.

My own dog trainer used to breed working labs and her last litter had parents who had excellent hip scores and yet one of the litter developed HD.  Thankfully he has pretty normal life after courses of hydrotherapy, after being diagnosed at about the same age so there is some hope.

I am so sorry to read about poor little Seth's hip problems  :'( When Jeff dislocated his hip when he was a pup the vet said it is possible he has HD, but it would be impossible to tell for definite until he is at least one year old and to take sensible precautions until then and have him re-tested :dunno:

Whatever Seth's future, he has a wonderful life ahead with you  :luv:
