It seems that there is no guarantee for even the most well bred dogs.

just shows what we've all been banging on about for years about HD in the breed I'm afraid - it's time that all 'good' breeders realised that HD is in the lines and they should be testing for it to save this heartbreak  :-\

I am so so sorry for both you and Seth, but he is a lucky little dog to have you as his mum and I know he will have a wonderful life, working or not.

I am sorry sorry to hear about poor Seth...keep your chin up ....we were given this diagnoses with Bailey at 5 months i was completely wiped out by it. :'( But after months of hydrotherapy and 15 minute walks no ball etc just straight forward calm walk and medication she really did come on and make huge progress  She is now 6 and doing really well   :luv: we have adjusted ours lives and the others know no different only the fact she gets a ride after 40 mins running  :005:
Seth has a wonderful mummy that will do her very best for him ...what more could a little chap need  :luv:
So so sorry...but together you will win the battle

Gutted for you both  :'(

Definitely take the hydrotherapy route, many spaniels with HD have benefited greatly.  Swimming is non weight bearing exercise and builds substantial muscle round the weak joint which holds it in place.  Good luck to both you and Seth.  :-*

Definately take the hydrotherapy.  This helps build muscle which will take some of the strain off the hip joint.  My large breed dog had severe HD diagnosed at 6 months and I too was devastated but after building his muscle up with MANY hydrotherapy sessions and watching his otherexercise he grew up to lead a (relatively)normal life and it was only in his last year that arthritis became a hindrence to him.  He died aged 11(breed average is 8 yrs) a happy old man and is very sadly missed.
I cannot stress enough how much the hydrotherapy helps this condition.  Please look into this.
There is a puddle on the floor,
tis there for all to see,
now is this puddle H20,
or is this K9 pee?

So sorry, but just remember Seth has always known things this way so as far as he's concerned he's normal and will try his best to adapt for as long as he is able. :luv:
