Will the KC now put endorsements on the parents so that they aren't bred from again?

I dont know about the KC end but the breeder has spoke to the orthapedic specialist and decided never to breed from the dam again.

I am so sorry to read this, especially after Seth's diagnosis.  All the best for Thursday, for you and Caoimha.

What is so good about this forum, though, is that people are honest.  Honest people who love their dogs and want the best for them, and aren't afraid to admit there may be problems in the breed.  I have watched well known breeders (variety of breeds - not only cockers), in another country scrapping and arguing over genetic diseases, pretending they 'can't possibly be responsible'; blaming nutrition, over exercise, etc, and all the while the poor dogs are suffering as are their unsuspecting owners who tried to do everything the 'right way'.

I am so sorry Cath, what horrible news. :bigarmhug:

I feel deeply passionate that cocker breeders should be more proactive at doing all the tests they can to provide a healthy start for the pups they breed, and to also be honest and upfront about any issues their dogs may have, over and above the KC regulations. I have tried very hard to restrict Tali's exercise because his father's hip score was 2 points higher than the KC suggest and his mother had no score. However, from my research, this seems, unfortunately, quite common. I've even put on weight so that we go up stairs in the lift rather than him racing up two flights several times a day.

In my opinion, I feel that until all breeds of dog are breed purely for health and temprament and not for a 'breed standard', sadly hip dysplasia, clef palettes and other common ailments are going to continue to rear their ugly heads creating pain for the poor animals and heartache for the poor owners.

This is such bad news - really glad that both Seth and Caoimhe are in the best hands to help them.

Wonder whether the breeder will inform the other owners for this litter?

Just as an aside:  Would the sale of goods cover the dogs - ie. dogs were bought to work and can no longer do this, so no longer fit for purpose.

So sorry to read this - you have a lot on your plate at the moment.  I am sure you will do the best for your little girl though and she will have a happy life - she won't know any different  :-\

Sending hugs and positive thoughts to you both :bigarmhug:

So very very sorry to hear this news. In goldens, hip scoring for reputable breeders is automatic as also are elbows. It's not just cockers, there are many other breeds with this awful problem.

Because they are so young, hopefully the damage can be limited. I know how disappointed you both are but life throws theses things up and if the worse happens their lives will be different but they will still be loved and wanted by you both.
