Because William has dry eye I apply Optimmune ointment every morning, which also means that I see his eyes close up every day. Just over a week ago I noticed a tiny flat flap (for want of a better word) in the third eyelid, top eyelid, right eye. When I opened the eye to apply the Optimmune the little flap was visible but then flipped back and disappeared. It was still the same a couple of days ago so I booked him an appointment with Kate, the opthalmist we see regularly.
Kate examined it and said that it was a small growth, slightly unusual because it wasn't on a stalk but was instead flat. She thought it was probably harmless but advised removing it before it got bigger and sending it for histology. Much to my surprise she offered to do the procedure there and then because she'd finished her morning surgery and it would save me having to drive there again. I'd already arranged to meet my friend Maria for lunch at a nearby garden centre, so went off and did that while William had the procedure under sedation. It was slightly surreal eating my panini and salad then buying a couple of plants while poor Wills was having the lump removed, but it kept me occupied for just the right amount of time.
William is now sleeping peacefully but seems pretty much OK. The eye looks a little bloodshot but doesn't seem to be worrying him as much as his bottom (Kate did his anal glands as well)
Hopefully he'll be feeling fine tomorrow.
The histology results will be 7 to 10 days so I may get them when I take him back for a check up with Kate next Thursday. Fingers crossed please that it was a benign lump.
