Am i right in thinking that Ham is bad for them im sure i read it somewhere and told off my mother when i found her giving him a slice of ham which is meant for sandwiches.............
My dad looked at me funny along with the OH who adviosed that ham and pork were fine - so i have no idea  :dunno:

I avoid chocolate with him as he doesnt need it and wont miss it if he gets none  :005:

I also had no idea what was allowed and what wasnt - i assumed they could basically eat anything  ph34r

P.S with corn on the cob is it the corn or the corn still on the cob that is dangerous ?

Charlene it's the cob that's the problem as they can't digest the cob, and it can cause a blockage :luv: :luv: x x x x

It's the cob that causes
probs as it can cause blockage
and cannot be digested,
sweetcorn kernels are fine and
can also tell you how quickly
your dog's intestinal tract
works as you know when it
was ingested and when it
makes a reappearance ;)

Pork is fine  :D

Oh, we had pork yesterday and I didn't give Toby any because I've read somewhere that pork is very bad for them.

Pork should be fine;
it's hams, bacon, gammon
etc that are a prob due to
high salt content.
steffxxx
again though, only a wee
taste.

I can't see any reason why pork would be bad except, as said before, ham or bacon type stuff which is salty.  Coco often has pork ribs and chunks and loves it - no nasty after effects either, unlike lamb which gives her the squits.  ph34r  Also, I would not feed very fatty pork eg pork belly because of the risk of pancreatitis but that applies to any meat  ;)

I may be wrong but I thought you had to be careful of undercooked pork because of tapeworm?

Can anyone advise?

Seaweed is another no no. We lost one of our retrievers 3 years ago because of sea weed. Naive me, thinking that sea weed is healthy thought it was fine but she ate some of the root which had the same effect as a corn cob. Poor Elcie had to have an op but we lost her 4 days later. :'(

Please do not let them eat it, poor Elcie had to have 9" of her intestine removed because of the damage it caused and she never recovered
