Eyelid - A Turn for the Worse
« on: January 31, 2012, 05:57:30 PM »
I noticed yesterday that the hair at the bottom of Toby's right eyelid (directly above his eyelashes) has gone very thin and you can see his skin.  There aren't any other symptoms, apart from that his eye looks fine.  Does anyone know what this could be.  It seems weird

This happened to Lillie a couple of years ago. TBH I didn't take her to the vet as the skin was not inflamed and she didn't seem irritated by it ph34r A month or so later was completely normal, and has been so ever since. I will be interested to see if any others have any advice/experience :D

Not sure whether the skin is inflamed, it looks a bit pink but he's not scratching at all.  Still, I think a trip to the vet is in order if only to put my mind at rest.  Thanks.

Toby been to vet this evening.  I googled his symptoms the other night and was worried that he may have a form of mange that affects puppies as their immune systems are not fully developed but the vet says it's not that.

So, Tobes had a very thorough examination of his eyes.  His right eye has a small, raised lump just above his eyelid.  Also, when his eyelid was pulled upwards, the vet noticed some lesions.  He says there are a number of causes for this - infection, foreign body but he wasn't sure at the moment so is treating is as an infection.  Toby has to go back next week for another examination and if there is no improvement, the vet will investigate further to try and find what is causing it, maybe an operation.  In the meantime, Tobes has had anti inflam and anti bac jabs, two lots of tablets including steroids and eye drops.  I've also got to apply a hot poultice to his eye twice a day in case it is a foreign body, which will help to draw it out.

Also, I had the vet check Toby's joints as well as he "clicks" sometimes when changing position.  Again he had a good examination of mainly his hips and knees.  Vet says nothing obvious at the moment and at Toby's young age, it could just be things "settling down".  If I'm still noticing anything in a couple of months time, they will xray his hips.

So, needless to say, I'm worried for my little guy and hope there is some improvement next week.

Hmmm....  good that nothing has shown up, but I can understand why you feel a bit unsure.  Hope things sort themselves out before your next visit.

Aww poor Tobes, though i bet you are more worried than he is.I think silica is good at drawing things out,or am i thinking about collodial silver  Helen will know.
I have found cheese a very good bribery tool to get eye drops in,but if you are in any doubt next visit ask your vet to refer you to a specialist (opthalmologist) as vets do have a habit of "we will try this and then try that" etc not saying yours does Neon  :D but eyes are so delicate and precious.

Hope little Tobes makes a speedy recovery  :luv:
