Lameness Update
« on: March 22, 2005, 08:47:12 AM »
hi to you all, thanks again for your replies.
yesterday i started a topic called lameness.
well i took my dog to the vets, and the vet is baffled.

he is not in pain, his knee caps /ligaments are fine, his hips are fine, his reflexes are fine, his pads are fine, but the vet saw him carring his leg.?????
he has no swelling, my vet also checked the bottom half of his spine all fine .

so she has suggested that i continue with complete rest, ( so no walks for my orange roan cocker ) for 7 days, bless him.
and has put him on a 10 day course of anti inflammotries. and if no improvement, then they are going to x-ray him.
woke up this morning, still hobbling.

so will keep you updated.on how things go. and i hope you will pray his leg gets better.only wish i knew what he had done. bless him

So frustrating to have to just wait and see, but I'm sure the anti-inflammatories(?sp. am I going mad?? I'm a nurse for **** sake! ), will help the pain, can't imagine what else could cause his symptoms.

Hope you don't both get too stir crazy, and that he soon improves.

Let us know how you get on. :P

All sorts of things can cause lameness - including auto immune diseases.  Usually with that though, the lameness is what they call "shifting" - it moves from one leg to another - so keep a careful eye out that he doesn't limp on other legs too.  When Saffy was first ill, they thought she had damaged her cruciate ligament - and wasted valuable time trying to get painkillers and anti inflams to work.  Not trying to scare you, just making you aware of another possibility.  There's no enlarged lymph nodes are there ?

sounds like he's maybe landed on it awkwardly or maybe banged it and it's just tender maybe when he puts weight on it - if so there would may be no other obvious signs.

I'm sure with rest and the anti inflammatories that he'll be fine in no time.
