2 days of loose stools. Help?
« on: July 02, 2007, 12:45:15 PM »
Smudge is 4 months old and has been fed on burns for about a month, but for the last three days he has had really loose smelly stools.  Wanted to know if this could be from teething as he has lost 6 of his first baby teeth this week, or more likely he has eaten something he shouldn't.

He still seems happy to play, walk and still hovers when it's nearly lunch time and wastes no time devouring it. So really at a lose to what could be causing this problem.

Any comments would be appreciated.

don't know if this will help or not, but my breeder said that if Badger gets Diarrhea (sorry can't spell), then feed him a chicken and rice diet (cook the chicken, boil the rice put the chicken with the rice and give some to him including the rice water as this has benefits.), haven't had to try this yet (only had badger 3 days), but maybe worth a try, see what others on here think. another thing just make sure he is drinking water, as I've heard puppies can get dehydrated quickly.

most likely teething causing dodgy bottom, put him on chicken and rice for a couple of meals and see if this firms him up ;)

I agree with the comments above - try chicken and rice or fish and rice for a few days to see if that helps and always keep plenty of water available. I wouldn't leave it too long before you go and see the vet if it continues though.

Plain chicken and rice but it would be worth getting him checked if it goes on much longer- the danger is dehydration in small p[ups

Thanks for your replies. Going to take Smudge to the vets at lunch just to make sure.

Jarvis has had a couple of periods of loose stools. He adores the chicken and rice so we suspect he's doing it deliberately :D

He did a beauty this morning, though... almost worth framing :)

Sorry Sheryl, never got to the computer yesterday.

The vet has given him a good check over and did his temperature, which was really funny as he has wriggled  for all the other checks, but stayed very still for the thermometer :005: His temp was slightly up, but not enough, to be worried. He has given him  some Kaobiotic tablets to help, which to the shock of our vet, ate half from the vets hand!!!

We have been giving him rice and chicken and things are starting to firm up (if you know what I mean). :shades:

Whistler is loose as well he is 4 months and teething I did not know that could cause loose stools, I have put him on rice with a little biscuit but he is still loose. I will keep at it for a few days more. Thanks
