Zorro had a grass seed
« on: July 06, 2008, 04:38:41 PM »
Took him to the vet yesterday as he kept shaking his head and sure enough, he had one. The vet have him an immobiliser, a new thing which slows the heart and makes them really floppy but is safer than a GA. It took the vet a while to get it out as it was right at the bottom.

Got him home and he was really out of it and you could feel his heart still doing a really slow thud-thud, and he just fell into a really deep sleep (which the vet had told us would happen). Poor boy wee'd himself twice in his sleep and big sis Bella was all worried and upset. Anyway he's as right as rain today, good to have our bouncy boy back!

Ooo an 'immobiliser'  is that a mild sedative? Does it have a proper name, or is that what I should ask my vet for?
It sounds perfick for Fern as she had to be put right out last time (-tho I hope she doesn't need it this year, three times last year is quite enough for a while  thank you  :shades:)

Poor Zorro - I'm glad he is back to his bouncy self  :D

I'm interested in the "immobiliser" too - I've googled but not found anything, so I'm guessing that it has some fancy medical title  ph34r

Glad he's ok, those grass seeds are a blurry nuisance and they seem to be all over. The immobiliser sounds better than a GA though. must be some sort of sedation, like a strong pre med or something.

I think it's similar to a pre-med. They had to monitor his heart but he was kind of conscious but couldn't move much, it relaxes all their muscles so the vet could just flip him over. Took a while for him to be able to walk afterwards and he was very groggy. We had him home straight away once they'd checked him over and a few hours later he was pretty much back to normal. I think it's a fairly new thing and it worked on zorro almost instantly (hmm, wonder if you can get milder versions for when he's doing our head in ha ha!). The vet said they're starting to use it more for things like grass seeds as it's a lot safer than the general. Cost us £90 so not much cheaper unfortunately!

Poor wee man! I got my two snoods last year....and then Bramble got a seed in her paw  >:( The snoods look too rediculous and the girls look embaressed wearing them.

Give Z a big  :-* from me.
