1am Poorly Roxy - Very Swollen Face :(
« on: November 05, 2009, 01:50:31 AM »
OH is out on a mission to find Piriton at nearly 2am as poor little Roxy is in a bad way.  :'( I thought I'd got the right anthihistamine in the cupboard but OH checked with the vet and its the wrong strength or something.  >:D Her face is so swollen she can hardly see.  :'( :o It started about 11pm when her muzzle looked a bit swollen, after going out in the garden for night time tinkles sometime earlier -  we both agreed that the swelling wasn't too bad and we'd check her in an hour. Anway, we checked her at 12.30 and her whole face had ballooned.  :'( :o We phoned the emergency vet but couldn't get through for ages. On speaking to him he didn't want to come out and see her as he said the piriton would be the best bet. I just hope he's right as she looks in such a state poor girly.  :luv: :'( I know no-ones online at this time in the morning but me and Roxy felt the typing helps while waiting for OH to get back from Tescos!!!

Awww, thank you  :luv:

OH not back yet, he'd phoned me to say they only have Cetirizine Hydrochloride  :-\ I've looked on the net and generally seems to be okay, think I'll check with the vet again before I give it to her. Why couldn't this have happend in the day time at normal o'clock!!?!

I know it's crazy -

Don't know much re the medications but as long as swelling is not interfering with breathing or causing major discomfort that is something.  Hopefully the vet should advise how you can make Roxy more comfortable.  Maybe ice would reduce swelling???

fingers crossed - will check in tomorrow - hope you all manage to get some rest!!

I hope Roxy is better this morning?  I wonder what caused the swelling.

Thank you all for your kind words.  :luv: Last night was horrible. I've never seen anything like it, her face was so swollen that her eyes were almost completely shut.  :o Her head was huge and really puffy. I left my camera at work unfortunately, I would;ve taken a photo as its hard to describe the state she was in.  :'( We got some Zyrtek in the end, which after Googling seemed to be okay (I was willing to try anything her face was so bad). :'( She's not perfect this morning, her muzzle is still swollen and her eyes look sore (the only way I can describe her eyes would be like English Bull Terriers - those little triangle eyes). But she's much, much better than she was at 2am. She is okay in herself, if a little worse for wear.

As for the cause, I really don't know. I've not seen any bees or wasps about. We have had grass snakes in the garden before but not recently.

Thanks again for your kind words.  :luv:

I would have been really peeved with my vet for not wanting to see her.  Even if he ended up giving the same medicine as you, at least he could have offered some reassurance after an examination :-\

Glad she is feeling a bit better

I have to admit, I was very  >:( when OH came off the phone saying the vet didn't want to see her. The vet said so long as there was no problems with her breething then there was nothing else he'd do differently than give her Piriton. Like you say, I'd have preferred him to have come out or met him up at the surgery to have examined her.  >:( This is what bothers me about the vets. When we book appnt's we always book to see the same vet as she is 5*, wonderful, but in the case of emergency you don't know which vet is going to be on call  :-\
