No - you didn't miss anything, it's a decision we've been coming round to for ages. But, and its a big but, I'm still really torn between getting a pup and a rescue. I would love to get a rescue, but OH is less sure. And as currently he's the one at home all day while I'm at work, I can't push too hard  ::)

I wish I never looked too  :'(  I so hope they get a nice loving home soon, most of us assume cocker spaniels are homed quickly but Sylvia told me once that some wait ages for their new homes not through the fault of the dogs but people just not looking  .... keeping my fingers crossed that they are in their forever homes soon .....

It is so sad, they are all beautiful girls.  :'(  I suppose it is just the wrong time of year for things to happen fast.  Most folks are caught up in the commercial worlwind of the 'C' word season.  Let's hope someone can find room in their lives for these little girls and they are with a family soon.

Just to let you all no I'm waiting to hear from Many Tears as I'm trying to give a home to Marie. I've spoken to them and they have said that I have first refusal but they were going to test her reaction to cats as I have four. I can't wait to hear, maybe we'll be taking a long journey at the weekend as I live in Banbury. I'll keep you all informed!

I enquired about all of them first and she said that Marina had gone but did I have a preference with the others. I just thought Marie looked so small and sweet, I'm sure Harvey would love her. I did think I'd be a bit concerned with the little golden one as they said she was very scared and I've got three children for her to contend with. Apparently they are all tested with children and if need be cats.

Along with Lufbra who needs homevetting, it looks like 3 will be homed.
On the subject of the little scared one - our Peggy was from MT, and she would physically shake from fear - but you should see her now!!!!!!!!! Patience and gentleness are the key, although my kids can be quite noisy at times. The dog will learn to take it in her stride as long as she feels secure and safe.
Our other bossy dog Tia helped, although our grumpy one Jack didn't much. They showed her what to do.
We still have accidents, but they are generally in one spot - and that's kind of what cats do in their dirt boxes. Easily cleaned up! ::)
Peggy's personality has really blossomed. That scared little bundle has become an irrepressible bundle of joy! :luv:
So in short, don't be put off by the scared one!
I hope you are all successful. Sylvia and Bill can seem quite stern sometimes, but that's just because they want the best for their little ones.

Good luck everyone. Lovely there has been so much interest in them.

My brother has e-mailed Sylvia about the pugs. He and his partner have been researching pug pups but would rather rescue. They adore all three but love Betsy so please keep your fingers croseed for them too!

Oh wonderful news, I kept looking at her as she reminds me of the Cocker we had called Spot. He came into our lives (thanks to PennyB) aged thirteen and lived to the grand age of 16.

Hope all goes well. Just imagine her being in a lovely home environment soon.

Thank you Michelle, she just tugged at my heart strings and I could not get her out of my mind!

Parker continues to do magnificently, thank you.  He has his new handmade boots for his back paws as he still drags them a little and if he is out for a long time, his paws get very sore.  However, even this is improving by the day and I suspect that he will only need to wear them for a couple more weeks.  He's such a happy dog now, it is lovely to see.  We just hope and pray that it never happens again  ph34r.

I'll keep you all posted on Marmalade Mrs Bridges'! progress!!

Aaaw that is great news. She looks so scared in the pic, I am sure that she will get her confidence and her cocker wag back after settling in with you all.  Do you know when you are going to get her?

Hi all,

Not sure when we will pick her up - when I contatced them earlier in the week they said she was due to be spayed etc. but should be available by the end of the week.  However, because of the mammoth distance we have to travel (we're in Northumberland, right up on the Scottish border!!) I don't think I'll be able to get down until early next week.

However, I will keep you all posted!!  :D

Hi Jeeves.  That's wonderful news about Mrs Bridges joining your family.  We adopted a puppy farm cocker (Millie) from Many Tears two years ago.  And we don't live too far from you - other side of the Pennines in Cumbria.  So if we can help in any way, do let us know.

Great News, we've had our homecheck done this morning and everything was fine.
Hopefully this weekend we'll be collecting Marie. We have decided that we will change her name to Summer.

Well, I emailed MT last night to say that we definitely would take Marmalade but I have not had a reply!  I'm getting a bit worried in case she goes elsewhere  :-\

I tried ringing but the answer machine message said not to leave messages about adoptions so I've emailed again.  Hope they get back to me, I can't bear to think of not having her here!

Annie, thanks for the offer of help - that is very kind of you.  I'll keep you posted!  ;)

Jeeves, I know it's difficult but I don't think you need to worry about the lack of a reply from Sylvia at MT.  It often takes her a couple of days to catch up with emails, especially if she's got a lot of dogs to cope with (which she certainly has at the moment!).  And she doesn't want messages left because she can't afford to  return all the calls.  If she agreed to reserve Marmalade while you made up your mind, she won't let her go elsewhere.  I can remember chewing my fingernails because there was no red writing against Millie's name, even though it was all agreed and I was preparing for the long drive south.  It eventually showed up ten minutes before I left (and a week after we emailed to say we wanted her).  Have you been homevetted yet?

I know exactly how you feel. We're adopting Marie and this week I have been a nervous wreck. I spoke to them on the Friday last week and heard nothing until Tuesday when they said they was struggling to find a homevetter in our area. I'm still waiting again for them to confirm  that they have spoken to the Homevetter and that its all OK. They did say in their last email that they have been particularly busy and she struggling to keep up with all the emails. The red writing took ages to appear so I really wouldn't worry too much I'm sure they'll be in touch soon. You only have to look at the amount of new arrivals to see how busy they must be.

Well, I have bad news.

I did get a reply and they seem to think we are not suitable for Marmalade - below is the email they sent me... (I run a livery yard and take Parker and Ronald to work with me)

Hi, Ihave had word back from Sylvia.
Marmalade is really nervous and she doesnt know if she would suit your work regime - would be petrified of horses and open spaces.  She couldnt cope with being left alone if you were to take your other 2 dogs out and as she doesnt go on a lead she cannot go out with you all.
Do you have any way of settling her in before going out to work for a while?  What hours are you usually out of the house each day?
Regards

I have emailed back and pointed out that the last thing I would do is take her to the stables on day one and chuck her out of the car amidst 16 horses!!  Parker stays in the car until all the horses are safely in the field as he has not got good eyesight and can't get out of the way quickly, and I would do the same with Marmalade.  I also pointed out that it took us ages to get Parker used to open space - to begin with he would not go on the grass, just the driveway and I had to carry him outside every time he needed a wee.

I feel really deflated.  We were prepared to drive a round trip of almost 1,000 miles to bring her home to a marvellous home but it looks as though it's not to be.  I cannot imagine who on earth is suitable if we aren't   :'(

Don't give up just yet. They're still asking you questions, maybe you could suggest that you would leave Marmalade at home with one of the other dogs to start with and pop back at lunch time. It does say on their website that they can be left for upto 4 hours with another dog but not on their own.
