Title: 9 month old lemon/orange(?) roan boy - NESSR (Near York)
Post by: BigJim&Kate on February 13, 2008, 12:06:00 PM
We have a young Golden lad coming in 7 months old, castrated and chipped. Has had an op on his bum but waiting for confirmation what this is emptying or removal...

As he is still a baby we dont want him in foster care too long so if you might be interested send me a pm.

Will follow up with more details when I have them.

Jim

Hello Jim

I would be interested in knowing more about this young chap. We are looking for a chum for our (nearly) 11 year old blue roan male cocker (separate posting - looking for a friend for Joe). We had to have his litter mate PTS 3 weeks ago with an inoperable tumor. We've had some feelers out but no luck as yet. (Not sure I fully understand the comment about the op on the bum however?)

Please let me know what I need to do from your end but we are interested.

Kind regards

Dawnie

Jim

We're located in London but just for the avoidance of doubt I wasn't looking to foster but for permanent rehoming. Not sure on re-reading your mail that we're on the same page?  :-\

He wont be far from you  :lol2:

Just to clarify, he will go into one of our experienced foster homes for assessment but as he is a baby we keen to get him sorted asap. We don't want him to get too settled and have to move again.

We will need to get to the bottom of whats wrong with his bum before he can go anywhere :)

Copied from NESSR:

9 months old,,castrated,,vacs up todate,,Mirco chipped,,,,,,,,,,,,,,good off the lead,,,not so good on the lead,,,,,very friendly lad,,,,has lived with older people,,,but he is just a pup,,and will be very happy to live a very active life....

He could be all show - some show-type orange roans carry very little coat (we've bred several who look quite similar to this boy in the coat department)

Got all confused there when posts merged, trust me to double up yet again on a rescue dog... His tail looked partially docked which is why i thought worker plus paw hair very short. He's the spit of Krumble apart from longer snout. I never get it right though!

His ears are quite high set, his muzzle is fairly long and 'clean' looking and he looks fairly rangy from the photos which made me think he was a cross. He reminds me a bit of Annette's Buddy who is 25% worker 75% show.

Long in the leg/good ground clearance  :005:  Like he could cover a lot of ground in his stride! It's hard to tell from that photo though, it could be the angle.

Wondered where you'd been Joules  :005: Yes I think I am totally raving bonkers, but there was always going to be a number 3.I love every bone in their little bodies.I think the rescue route is the right way to do it.By all accounts he is a lovely lad, If I had the land for some Alpacas I'd have some of them too  ph34r. I'm sure little miss Ellie will boss the poor lad about, I think he will be quite safe with Sash as long as he doesn't nick her slippers and shoes. will post pics asap.

The name he has now is Murphy, I don't know whether if changing it will confuse him, I just don't know I might leave it. what do you all think. already in my mind I have been referring to him as Smurf

He's still very young and I don't think changing his name would be a problem. Tilly was 2 when I got her and she was then called Bonnie.

I think Murphy/Smurf are both great names - still, as you say you will need to see if it suits him  ;)

I think you are right - if I ever get a second dog it will be a rescue  :D You can certainly get hooked on having animals - I know I am - I'm already thinking about my next ones  (chickens) :005:

No I am not going to take the girls with me. We are going to pick him up about lunch time, then I will drop him off with my daughter at the local country park. I will then come home and pick up my girls and take them down there. I think they will be ok but then get the shock of their lives when we put him in the car to bring him home. I'm going to keep him on a line though in case he does a runner.

Well Murphy is home and now called Monty. He is huge. He is 3 times the size of my girls, He is very bouncy, we took them to meet in the park and Ellie told him off. She has now turned into a screaming snarling banshee every time she sees him. Sash has been quite laid back about it.He has a few mats but I don't think I'll be able to lift him on the grooming table. He seems to be a very nice boy and his tail has never stopped wagging. I think he is lemon as the orangy parts of him are lighter than I thought. I think it is going to take a lot to tire him out and he needs training. He has already destroyed a ropey ball thing, he just crunches through toys. Not to sure what to do with Ells she really doesn't seem to like him I hope she settles down. I will upload some photos and get my son to sort the video we took of them meeting, he was as good as gold. I have also videod Ellies reaction to him. He has made himself right at home on the sofa. He does pull on the lead and is very strong. We let him off in the park and he was very good chasing a ball. I'll go see what photos I managed to get and put some on.

worker x show (2nd to last pic he looks very worker).  Orange roan and lemon roan to my knowledge are one and the same?  The show term is Orange and the working cocker term is Lemon - that's always been my understanding  :-\

yeah I think your right, thought you might be able to tell off that pic. He is lovely though. We have just taken him for a walk to the pizza shop, he walked pretty good, he did pull but then walked better when I checked him. That was till Sue came out with the pizza, he was nearly round her neck. Ellie has been to have a little sniff of him and let him walk past her once, before going back to snarling at him. I'm sure they will be ok cos he's not snarling back he just walks away, He's a good lad.

He is such a lovely lad Sheryl, He settled in his crate and I never heard a peep out of him all night. He is really trying to make friends with Ellie he wants to play with her. She is still frightened of him and gving him lip but I have got where they can be together and she is slowly starting to accept him. We have been to the country park this morning that was fine, she told him off once. He wrecked all 3 tennis balls and has destroyed 3 tug ropes in seconds  :o can't believe how fast he chews through them. He then found a lab to play with and was in his element.
