Title: Luke - 15 years old Merseyside Dogs Trust

Likes and dislikes: Luke is a lovely old man who found himself in our care after his owner died and the rest of the family couldn’t give him the attention that he needed. He loves company and his doggy friends. He currently lives with two yorkies at the centre. Luke just likes to plod around and still enjoys his walks.

Type of home needed:  Luke is looking for a loving home to spend the rest of his days. He still has a lot to give a new owner. He can be left for a few hours but he gets a little distressed if left any longer and he can’t hold himself as long anymore.  Could you provide a nice warm bed and some company for this little old man?

What a gorgeous looking boy Luke is :luv: and how very sad at the age of 15 he is looking for a new home, he sounds lovely, i do hope someone comes along quickly and gives him the loving home he deserves :D

Unfortunately, I'm off to France next month and won't be back until August, otherwise I would take him in.

I'll certainly have him if he is still available in August.  He'll make an ideal companion for Charley.

Love to help him enjoy the rest of his days but with two pups think it would be too much for him?  Hope he finds a loving home soon.

I 'phoned this morning to say that I'll take him in August, if he is still available.  They didn't bother to take any details.

He looks like Benjie, my last Golden Cocker.

Good luck. He deserves a fab home and Im sure you could give him one. Although I would like to see him in a home before August it would be fab if he could go to a fellow COLer  :luv:

Do the oldies club know about this boy? They may be able to put him on their page, does anyone know how to go about it? Iam also wondering is there  a cocker spaniel rescue in Merseyside who could find a foster home? We got our old man Ralph after seeing him on the oldies page and cockers online. Think oldies club is a good route. Good luck Luke, hope you are soon in a loving home

There are two members of Cocker Rescue not too far from Dog's Trust.  One is in St Helens, according to the 'phone number, and the other is somewhere in the Liverpool area.http://www.thecockerspanielclub.co.uk/rescue_reps.htm

I rang the merseyside centre as I couldn't wait to find out and have been told that Luke has some behavioural problems and although I am more than willing to still take him they said that as I have got children it is a definite no, they say he needs an adult only home,  :'(  :'(  :'(
Am so upset as we would all love to have him and the dogstrust write up on him describes a happy old boy who just needs some love for his remaining days which we could provide, I just wish they had specified adult only it would have saved me getting my hopes up.
So no home visit and no Luke  :'(
I hope he isn't waiting too long, just look at that beautiful face.

ok gonna break my silence.....

I contacted DT about possibly a foster home for Luke and subject to a homecheck or vets reference...and The Groovy gang getting on OK with him...Luke may be coming to live here. DT are ok with the hours I work.

they think Luke is a little senile and barks for a while until he settles and is a little incontinent. The incontinence I can deal with, but my biggest concern is the barking. I dont want to stress my lot out as they come first...so nothing is definate.

Any constructive advice about dealing with senility will be gratefully received as I do need to be sensible about it ;)

Thanks for your PM Lisa, hopefully things will really work out for him, and cos you dont have kids he would be less stressed with you I'm sure. Keep me updated!  :-*

thanks Lucy...I have done a bit of research, but this site in particular suggests things I'd been thinking of to deal with the problem so thats cool  ;)

I cant give him a home if his barking is too bad though.....I think it will just set them all off... ph34r so thats what I'm having to decide about  :-\  ;)

Lisa, I hope Luke comes to stay with you and everything works out. We have old Ralph, from The Ark, who is 14, he came to join us in January. He also has a little problem with widdling(here there and everywhere..) but we are delighted at the progress this old man has made. His piddling has really greatly improved, and , with the benefit of hindsight, we can see that a lot of the widdling was marking and helping to find his way about, he had very poor eyesight , which we now believe has all but gone completely :'( He was quite quiet at first, but when he settled did have some barking episodes, mainly I think to get reassurance we were near by, this has also improved a lot but hasnt gone, and he wasnt at all distressed, in fact he is a very happy old man. I hope Luke has found his happy retirement home with you, Ralph has brought a lot of joy to us , we can learn a lot from these oldies, and when you see how they respond to being loved for who they are it is heartwarming. PS We also have 3 other cockers, who all know Ralph is the grandpa, so no problems :005:

obviously at 15 years old Luke is likely to be a bit senile, but they've also told me some other things and it sounds like he's had a rough time :-\ so to hear  your story with Ralph is really positive so just maybe we can make Lukes last times good ones :shades:

well I am so surprised...and pleasantly too,,,well so far.........

I was warned  that Luke barks, is incontinent etc.....obviously we had a long day yesterday and we ended it at my friends two doors down for tea, but he behaved really well at my friends and we came home, he went to bed with a kong (downstairs on his own cos he cant manage stairs) ......just after 7 this morning and not a peep from him all night  :D just one wee, but I expected worse. He was actually still asleep and thrilled to see us when he woke up!

He does whinge and pace around a bit, but we think thats for food and attention (hes incredibly greedy ::)) cos he stops when i ignore him.

They also told me that he is food agressive, but he's had his meds rolled in ham this morning and took his turn with the others, but I will watch him for that... I have to say I'm really pleased bless him. I wasn't sure I'd done the right thing, but......he's a real sweetie  :luv:

Oh, lisa, I'm crying reading this. i am so glad Luke has found you and the groovy gang. xx

me too. Am so so pleased he's come home to you. I cant wait to hear all about him

xxx

thanx for finding him Caroline   ;)

I would like to say how brilliant everyone at the Merseyside Dogs Trust centre were. Its a really lovely place, with fab grounds for the dogs to walk in...its still heartbreaking to know they are in kennels, but they are certainly very well cared for and loved :D

They even microchipped G & L & A for a very very small fee ....( I know its something I'd not got around to doing ph34r )

Luke likes my uni folders  ph34r  :lol2:  looks like i gotta move some stuff  ::)  :005:

Aidee is a bit confused......but they seem to be fine Joules. I do look after other peeps dogs, so they are used to having others around  ;)

Aw, those are cute photos - the original ones don't do him justice. I see wee Mr Spotto Face had to get in the background of the shot.  :005:
