 ph34r ph34r ph34r

I cannot I cannot I cannot  ph34r

I can however recommend giving a home to an oldie  ;)

Luke is from the Dogs Trust and has somehow managed to live longer than anyone expected  :shades: otherwise I would be calling dogs trust again. I cant cope with 5  ::)

It is spooky tho as I call Luke, 'Luke Duke'  ph34r

How on earth do dogs that age end up in rescue? :'( He sounds a fabulous boy :luv:

I was wondering the same thing Beth

Lukes owner died and her family couldn't cope with or keep him  :-\ so thats how some of them end up in rescue

Come on Lisa you know you want him! No matter how little time he has left (or how much) doesn't he deserve to spend it in a loving home. ;)
He sounds adorable and he looks so sweet. :luv: :luv:

Lisa.....you have to ask yourself how much that actually matters to you  ;)

When I picked Luke up in June no one thought he see another couple of months...those months passed and he put on weight, was much steadier on his legs, (he was in poor condition)...then we had a holiday in Wales and he improved even more....then we got to Christmas ....I dont need to go on! He will be 16 in a couple of weeks and it realy does look like he is going to make it. But if he doesn't then hey I have given him a pretty nice bed and filled his belly well, so losing him will be sad, but  ;)

Give the centre a call and find out a bit more about him, even go and see him, then make your mind up.

Luke is not an easy dog, but I knew that and the changes imhim are really rewarding. Dukey sounds like an absolute love in comparison! I only wish I had the time, but another really would not be fair on the groovy gang right now.

Go on Lisa.

My OH had a rescue greyhound who only lived a year after he had her, but the pain of losing her wasnt anywhere near as bad as losing a "normal dog" because he knew that he had given her the best of everything for that year and that if it wasnt for him, she could have been stuck in a rescue centre for that year.

There is something so amazing about having a rescue dog - there isnt a feeling in the world equal to it. It makes you feel lucky to be a part of their life, and they seem so grateful for the love you give them.

it is a shame though!

I try not too look too much on rescue sites etc not because i dont want to know but because my heart will rule my head and having just got my first dog ( Marty the 7 month old cocker spaniel lol) I think one will be enough until I'm like one of those reclusive cat ladies you hear about ... except with dogs.. living in the country surrounded my all sorts of dogs!

P.s: I have nothing against cat ladies, i'm more of a dog kinda girl!

I can definitely recommend an older Cocker from Dogs Trust! :D

I'm tempted myself, but I'll need to speak to OH. Although that didn't stop me last time, I only told him we were getting Gari after we'd got him! :005:

It'd be lovely if Dukey could end up with a COL member, so we could hear how he's getting on.

I've been trying to ring them, but can't get through to even leave a message. I just need to ask a couple of questions: if he is ok to travel that far and if he can be left for 4-5 hours whilst I am at work. It is possible they could transfer him to Glasgow for rehoming and we could do the meeting with Gari here, it has been done before. I might ring my old boss. :D

OH will kill me...! :005:

I finally got through. They said he was just transferred there from a Scottish centre! It couldn't have been Glasgow or my friend there would have told me. They said they don't have his handover form (I don't believe that) and that he hasn't been assessed, she can't tell me if he is good with dogs (it says on the website he loves them) or can be left alone, basically they claim to know nothing about him. ::)

However, I have a reserve on him pending assessment! :D :luv:

OH will extra kill me now! :lol2:

PS Tried ringing ex boss to see if she can pull strings, but it's her day off.

Not sure yet, he has only just been transferred down, and the 5 hour journey back up so soon may be too much for him as he is so elderly and not in good health. :'(

However, he is not being kept in a kennel, he is in Oakfield where the really old and infirm dogs live, so that's one good thing.

So wish I'd known he was up here and he would have had a home ages ago. My parents have missed on 3 oldie cockers now and I had been scouring everywhere looking for one. Boo. Is it just old age or does he have other problems?

Not sure yet, he has only just been transferred down, and the 5 hour journey back up so soon may be too much for him as he is so elderly and not in good health. :'(

However, he is not being kept in a kennel, he is in Oakfield where the really old and infirm dogs live, so that's one good thing.

is that in foster care then or just indoor kennels?

It's a private house next to the centre. Apparently they all have beds in big rooms and are in together, so I don't think it's indoor kennels. I've never been there though.

oh right...sounds ok then

I shouldn't keep referring to my Luke, but it took us almost 5 hours to get back from Liverpool with him and he wasn't very healthy at all. But he just sleeps in the car, so was fine  ;) I guess it depends on how well Duke travels  :-\

Dukey wouldn't get much sleep if he had to travel in our car with Gari - Gari squeals with excitement the whole of any car journey! :005:

The centre called and I'm afraid that Dukey isn't fit to travel. We are a suitable home for him, but he won't be able to come. :'( :'( :'(
I am very upset about it. :'(

As he isn't actually my dog I can't post publicly anything about him other than what is on his profile, but I can PM anyone who wants to talk about him.

I am so glad to hear that he is in a house not in kennels at his age. Sorry it didn't work out (although who knows). However you have got your OH to agree to an oldie now haven't you  ;)

Is it the length of the journey that's a problem.... we're in Carlisle, roughly half way, you could always do an overnight stop with us if that helps?

Dukey looks so lovely, I would have offered him a home but again, because I live in Edinburgh, the travelling would be too long for him :(

I do hope so. Just had another look at him on the site and he sounds adorable. :luv: :luv:
Someone could get so much pleasure from spoiling him rotten for whatever time he has left. ;)

He's not well enough to go anywhere just now, but if anyone is interested get in touch with Dogs Trust and they will keep you informed about him.

I'm still trying to stop thinking of him as my dog, I got too attached as my heart always rules my head. :'(
