Lance- 7yr old black working cocker with SRS
« on: August 27, 2009, 12:13:00 PM »

Name:Lance
Age: 7
Sex: male
Ref No: 12280088
Good with dogs: quiet dogs
Good with cats: no
Good with Children: no
Breed: working cocker
Reserved: no

Email contact: WestLothian@springerrescuescotland.org or PM myself or Rats and Dogs on the forum.

Lance is now officially looking for his forever home and will be available for rehoming once he has recovered from his neutering and dental which took place yesterday. Lance has come from a kennel environment and may have been a working dog in the past. However he has been rather neglected for a while and came to us in a very poor state along with his 13yr old lab brother who had to put down due to serious health issues. Lance has come on fantastically in foster care and is a very sweet and affectionate boy. He is slowly adapting to living indoors but we feel that his forever home must be able to give him a lot of outdoor space and perhaps let him sleep in a kennel at nights. In time he could fully adapt to indoor living but after 7 years outdoors this could take a while. He is not a hugely active dog compared to many working cockers and is not a typical working dog in terms of mental and physical needs so a working home would not suit him. He would benefit from some basic gundog or obedience work to keep his mind ticking over. Lance likes to meet new people but can be scared of noisy children so would be best in a home with adults only. He is getting used to other dogs and would benefit from a calm older dog as a companion.

Lance is fantastic on walks and doesnt go far and has excellent recall. He does not like to be left alone at the moment so someone who is around most of the time would be ideal and who could possibly leave him in a run/kennel outdoors when they are out. Lance still scent marks indoors but is improving.

He will be neutered, microchipped and vaccinated before rehoming.

Can you give this lovely boy that extra special home?

Mum to cockers Lily, Lance and Krumble and lurchers Arwen and Lyra. Hooman sister to Pepper, 13.

Can I just add that Lance wouldn't need a kennel at night if he was allowed to sleep in his new owner's bedroom! ;) :005:

And he loves the sofa...

Update on Lance:

Lance has now really taken to being an indoor dog, so much so, that I can hardly get him out! :o  He has stopped sitting and sleeping outside, and now only sleeps in his bed, on the couch or on our bed! He is now housetrained, lets me know when he needs to go out, and sleeps all through the night, and beyond, if I don't wake him up! ::)

Duggie has taught him how to play and he has become very puppy like, he even played with a big puppy in the park yesterday. :D  He copies Duggie in almost everything, even snuggling up close to my face, but whereas Duggie bites my nose, Lance licks it. :luv:

He wants attention and petted all the time, and still suffers from separation anxiety, which is understandable as he has gone from having nothing and nobody, to having a person and a pup with him all the time. I am working on this and he is improving, again thanks to Duggie, as Duggie is the easiest most laid back pup ever, and now that Lance has lost his fear of him, he thinks he is his hero. :D

Lance will be fine going to a home either with another dog or without, as he would be happy being the only dog getting all the attention. ;)

ETA: It says on his handover form he is used to cats! ;) (plus cattle, sheep and poultry)

What a lovely update and so nice to see how far he has come. Whoever gets Lance is very lucky, has there been any interest Fiona or can you not say?
