Bean - 6 month old Orange Roan with FOA RCT
« on: April 02, 2010, 08:29:18 PM »
Copied from dp -

Bean came to us at 14 weeks as a hand in from his breeder. He had been returned because he was found to be an hermaphrodite. This is a pup with both male and female reproductive organs so when he came in we were unable to tell if Bean was male or female.

He had surgery and both a uterus and testicles were removed and the vet felt Bean was more male than female. There were some concerns about the shape of his penis and if he would have problems when he urinated but he has been fine.

He is now 6 months old and has had the all clear from the vets to go up for adoption. He is fully vaccinated and microchipped. he is housetrained and has earned the nickname Percy Thrower by his foster mum Joy as he has deheaded all her daffs

Bean is living with two other dogs, one a pup and one an oldie, is good with children and is delight to know. He is in foster here in Wales.

He will expect his new family to be home most of the time, to take him to training classes and give him the exercise he loves.

Pics on the way.

You need to fill in a pre-adoption form if interested

Oh isn't he gorgeous  :luv: :luv:

I think I'm right in saying this is the condition that Mollycuddles George has, I'm sure if you search back through the threads or contact her. she should be able to fill in some information about this.  It might help anyone thinking of taking on this gorgeous pup  :luv:

What a gorgeous pupster....he is sooo handsome.  :luv: :luv:

I feel so sad for him though....surely the breeder is morally responsible for his little life.  :'(  and should have taken responsibility for his medical probs and made sure he was loved & cared for the rest of his life.  >:(

Really hope a wonderful, loving home comes along for him soon & he goes onto live a long, happy, healthy life.  :luv:

Are there any 'issues' with him being 'sexless'??
Was just wondering whether he'd need hormone replacement type treatment, or would it be the same as owning a neutered / spayed dog??

Does anyone know??

I agree entirely, it breaks my heart to think of poor Bean as a hand in. I so hope he gets a loving forever home soon  :luv:

As Jenny mentioned my George has the same condition he was handed in to MT at the tender age of 8 weeks with 2 other siblings all 3 were hermaphrodites. I adopted him a few days later and was able to keep in touch with the new owners of the other two pups.
They all had their castration/spaying and were fine although we had complication a few months later with George which became very serious but that was down to our vet who during the initial spaying/castration failed to remove some part which caused a blockage to the urethra.... without going into full detail....

George is now 4 and has had no other complications at all and as far as I've experienced with him and what I've heard of his 2 siblings not needed any hormone treatment, they just act like any other spayed/ castrated dog.

Really hope Bean finds his forever home soon as he seems to of been in rescue for a while

I personally would have no hesitation on taking on another hermaphrodite :D.
