Title: Quick Chicken Wing Question
Post by: *Lucy* on April 22, 2009, 03:57:22 PM
Just fed the girls their very first chicken wing - they loved it  :D (will post video later!!!)

Do I count this as a meal???

They are both still hanging around my feet like they are still waiting for their diner

Ours get two chicken wings as part of their evening meal. So for breakfast they have biscuits (half a daily amount) then for dinner they get raw meat and two wings (again adds up to half a days amount of barf)

Hope that helps...

I do the same, half dried does in the morning and mince/chickenwings at night. you can feed them as a whole meal, as long as you feed enough

Thank you both  ;)

I have just given them another (went down faster than the first!!  :lol2:) - so do you think this will be enough for them tonight?

They are fed on Burns normally but I thought as we were having a BBQ that I would treat them to some chicken!

I wont be feeding them this all the time, just as a treat every now and then.

Hey just a daft newb question - do you give the wing bones and all?  I thought the little bones were a bit dodgy for dogs no?

Yes, the whole thing - but it must be RAW.  Never feed cooked bones - they are the ones that cause problems  ;)

Re the original question, Coco has 2 large or 3 small wings for a meal  ;)

yep, that's the same for Jarv - he has nothing else with it, that's an entire meal  ;)

She might not have crunched it up properly, it can take them a few goes to get the hang of it as they often wolf them down too quickly to begin with and then they come back up again. My two will occasionally throw up after a bone meal if they've been a bit over enthusiastic and swallowed big chunks of it without chewing properly - 9 times out of 10 they re-eat what they've thrown up straight away, some bits just need a second chewing :lol2:  I would try her again a few times - you could try bashing the wings with a rolling pin or meat tenderiser first to break them up a bit or hold onto one end while she chews on the other.

Thanks Nicola!

She has been sick again today and OMG does it stink!!!  :o >:(

She is totally fine in herself, she must just be a bit of a pig  ph34r, she did eat it very very quickly! They both did actually, I was quite surprised!!

Will try them again next week!

I do the same as mentioned already - half Arden Grange in the morning and half barf for his tea.  Mason eats his wings very quickly so I still hold them for him until I am happy that he has crunched the bones enough not to cause him any problems.  I used to be a bit fazed by the noise of the crunching but now I quite enjoy feeding them to him  :D
