Is it alright to freeze Naturediet once opened?
« on: August 05, 2007, 06:02:47 PM »
It says on the packet to use within 48 hours, but I only want to add a little to Fern's evening meal, and the amount I want makes a packet last about 5 meals - I thought about freezing it in these amounts and getting out in the morning before giving it to her at tea time.  Does anyone know if this would be alright?  I would hate to give her a bad tummy.  :-\

I've never frozen nature diet before usually just pop it in the fridge and it keeps a couple of days if necessary... wish I could get 5 meals out of one packet Ayla eats a whole one of those plus her veggies and other stuff each day and bonnie has three so theres nothing wasted here at all  :luv:

True.  I wouldn't freeze it though if you can use it up in a couple of days.  It will be fine in the fridge for that long.   ;)

I have recently transferred Fern over to Burns, and have been adding a little bit of Naturediet to her evening meal to liven it up a bit.  I moisten it in the mornings - so far this system is working really well  she enjoys it and eats everything.  So the way I wish to use the Naturediet will mean it having to last 5 days instead of 2.  I shall have a look on the website and send them an email, although I would expect them to prefer that I feed Fern solely Naturediet and not Burns!  Or I could try Naturesmenu if that is a smaller packet.  I could just give her more Naturediet but I'd prefer her food to be at least 80% Burns if possible.

I don't make life easy for myself do I!!!

No!!  :005:  I used to feed Coco half Naturediet and half dry food and that worked well for us.  Couldn't you just feed Fern a bit more ND so she can have it fresh?  ;)

Once opened I'd put it into an airtight container & just refrigerate it. It will be fine, I used to do this when Billy had it with Burns.

Just Burns. He's happy to eat it on it's own so i did away with the nature diet.

Fern has Burns on its own in the morning - I haven't really tried it plain twice - I was told she shouldn't have it wet all the time as it won't help her teeth, so we've been doing the try portion with the Naturediet. I might give it a go and see what happens  ;)

nature diet is soft though that won't do anything for her teeth... try a beef bone from the butchers leaves their teeth in lovely condition :D
