A load of tripe
« on: September 03, 2012, 11:14:38 AM »
Just wanted to extol the virtues of a bag of free flow frozen tripe  :005: sad eh!

I've never fed a dog of mine raw tripe, just the dried smelly tripe sticks. However I picked up this big bag of frozen dry flow raw tripe the other day and just can't believe the reaction it gets at meal times. To say she loves it is an understatement. She's usually indifferent to the sound of food going in the bowl - very odd girl (def doesn't take after me!). Rustle the tripe bag out of the freezer though and my doG!

I know lots of you have done this for years but I always had this vision that apart from anything else it would stink so much  :020:. It doesn't. I catch it at the just thawed stage, put it down and whoosh, it's gone :D. Can highly recommend!

I have never tried free flow, might give it a go. Ollie loves his tripe but it does pile weight on him.

My guys get green tripe regularly (it's part of their staple diet), thawed though so it smells. But hey, I don't have to eat it and it never stays long in the bowl anyway.  :005: They love it and it's very healthy for them.

Charlie LOVES tripe, he is pretty fussy but when I get the bag out of the freezer he's there waiting for it. If I do that with his normal food he just walks away indifferent.

Tripe does smell, but it doesn't smell that bad....plus as you've said it doesn't last long enough to smell too much.

I normally defrost it in a tupperware so it doesn't smell everything up.

Jarv loves it too - my theory is that it's practically inhaled, so the time frame of it being in the dish is a nano-second -  I can live with that  :lol2:

William and Louis love it, so I brave the smell sometimes.

Rodaidh and Caoimhe both love tripe, it's part of their regular diet and I usually buy the freeflow stuff for convenience; Caoimhe's trainer feeds green tripe to all of his field trial dogs in the trialling season (as well as kibble).
