Hello - picking up my new baby tomorrow
« on: November 22, 2016, 07:47:41 PM »
Evening All,

I pick up our new puppy tomorrow evening! I'm so excited. She's a 10 week old black and white working cocker.

We plan to call her Fly - short for Butterfly. The reason for her name is that butterflies are the symbol of recovery from Self Harm. My 14 year old daughter has been struggling with this and other anxiety/food based disorders for a while and as part of her treatment was introduced to a therapy dog. He helped her so much that the doctors suggested that my girl have one of her own. I'd been thinking of getting a dog for some time but decided to wait until she was on her way to recovering.

Anyway - Fly will be here tomorrow. I have no doubt that I will be the one out in the rain at 6am or 11pm but training her will be my daughters 'job'. She'll be the one to go to puppy classes, agility training etc.

Just thought I'd introduce myself

:-)

Hello and welcome to the family
You have made a good choice of pup. They are the most loving breed ever.  I hope she and your daughter have the best of times.
You, I am afraid might have to say good bye to your sanity  :005: for a few months as chief poop picker up and standing most of the night outside waiting for pees.
The beauty of this site is the vast knowledge available at your beckon call. Only only dog issues but numerous subjects( its amazing what life experiences our combined lives have endured )   . There is always someone lucking at all hours ready to advise if they can or just to listen while things are got off ones chest. Just a thought to involve your daughter (if it would do some good) there is a puppy post page where she could write a diary of adventures. We would love to hear them .
Please post a photo of Fly asap so we can gush.

ps  make sure you all have a good night sleep  ;)

Excellent idea - I'll get her to sign up and start documenting Fly's adventures. It'll be good for her to see how far she comes with the training.

I'm well aware it will be my last full nights sleep in a long time. Having successfully sleep trained three human babies I'm sure a Cocker couldn't be any worse.... could it..... lol

We've got a crate to pick up tomorrow morning and a baby monitor because my hearing is not so good. I've got the ticking alarm clock and the breeder is providing a blanket used with the litter. I've grabbed a selection of toys and treats, puppy pads and a jingle bell for the back door. Oh and a stairgate because the teenagers bedroom would be a puppys delight! I've ordered a couple of Kong treat toys, a whistle  and a clicker from Amazon (planning ahead) and signed them up for 2x week puppy class/socialisation class.

Its all go here!

Good luck for later on!  Hope she brings you all years of love, fun and "adventure"  :005:

I did say many times after having my 2nd cocker, that having another baby was much easier  :shades: :lol2: (although I went on to get a 3rd so it didn't put me off  ;))
Both taken away from us far too soon. x  RIP Angels Odie & Archie, causing mayhem at the Rainbow, no doubt!
