First gundog lesson!
« on: February 22, 2012, 07:40:09 PM »
Tally and I (and pup Charlie, who came for the ride) had our first gun dog training session yesterday, and I am hooked! It was so good to see Tally doing what a cocker should be doing, and not be under any pressure. She had a blast, had to use her little brain lots, and we've got homework!

Then, when I got home, Charlie came running in looking soooo pleased with himself.. retrieving a (dead) baby rabbit to me! Urghhh. Had to act pleased  :005:

Can't wait for our next session!

Congratulations Sophie ...sounds like you both had a great time
I too have just started gundog lessons & like you, am totally hooked - it really is something quite special to see a dog doing what comes naturally to them  :luv:  I'm in awe & we're only on lesson 2 aswell  :005:
It really makes a difference to have a good trainer doesn't it hun - mine is fab & takes all the nerves & worries away & replaces it with confidence & fun  :happydance:   ........ she thinks Toby will be out working by next January  :fear2: ...he might be ready but will I?  ph34r :005:
If your dog thinks you're the best.....don't seek a second opinion!!

Hi Sophie,

Sounds like you had a ball. How old is Tally? Were thinking of taking Ollie. He's 14 months old now. is he the right age?

Tally is 2, but they can start sooner (some would say the sooner the better). Our pup will start earlier so he doesn't get into the same habits  ;) so we are already making sure we're doing the right things with him to set him up for later.

Would thoroughly recommend it, so interesting and Tally loved it
