OK - simple...
Chocolate, as in the proper human dairy milk/galaxy variety, is it bad for dogs?
I suppose what I mean is, is it poisonious?

My breeder said it was
My dog trainer encourages you to use anything to train your dog, including chocolate

Bearing in mind that we have given Millie chocolate since we had her (I didn't think it was a problem)
Not vast quantities you understand - just the odd bit here and there as a treat - for example she loves chocolate M&Ms - will do anything for them!  Are we killing her?  ???  :'(  :-

The substance in chocolate is theobromine which as humans we can break down and eliminate quite quickly but in dogs the process is a lot slower. So basically over a period of time you could end up poisoning your dog because the toxins accumulate in the liver if it can't get rid of them fast enough.

Chocolate poisoning, i.e. if they eat it in a large quantity can be fatal.

Chocolate treats that you buy in the petshop are fine to use.

Plus, there is the problem that chocolate is fattening and can cause tooth decay!

Hi Kelly,
I wouldn't give chocolate or anything else sweet simply because of the danger to their teeth apart from the fact that it poisonous.  I only wish someone would control my intake of it ;D
