They're both poorly!!!
« on: November 07, 2003, 07:54:37 PM »
Hi all - I've been too busy to get on here for ages but I do think of you all! Well, poor Tia has been on the vets table yet again and has a perforated ear drum now and even after only a week since being flushed clean it's getting bad again! The vet keeps saying she will eventually have to have serious surgery to remove the ear canal completely. Does anyone have any experience of this?
Also - poor little Bluey - she has just had the lump removed on Wednesday from her face / by her ear and we are waiting for the results of that as well as results for Tia. Blue seems ok nut has stitches the whole height of her face all down the side of her ear. :( The worst thing is trying to keep her quiet and not run around as Ollie just wants to play!

Our old Daisy had an aural resection on one ear when she was about 5 - she recovered well from it & never had ear trouble in that ear again (she's the only one of our Cockers ever to have persistent ear trouble) I also have a friend whose Cocker had even more drastic ear surgery at Langford Vet School to remove the ear canal completely (the entrance to the canal was then sewn up) I trimmed this Cocker for many years & the surgery obviously left her deaf in that ear but apart from that, she recovered well & lived a normal life free from ear trouble after that, so its worth considering if all other avenues fail. Its unusual though - she's the only Cocker I've come across to have had this type of surgery before.

Poor you. Sadly I've had far too much experience lately of sick cockers. Hope all this resolves soon.

Sorry to hear both your fluff balls are having problems at the mo. Hope it all gets better very soon.

From what Jane sadi, the aural surgery sounds more scary to us than the end result for the dog - but it doesn't stop us fretting does it?

Good luck - let us know how you're doing.

Sorry to hear about your babes. I hope it gets better soon. Alfie had perforated ear drums this summer due to grass seeds, but they healed ok. He is back on ear drops at the moment because one of the canals looks at bit bunged up. I hope it doesn't turn into anything else.
I hope the results for Bluey are ok too. You are having a bad time of it lately.
Sending best wishes to you all
Lou and Alfie.

Hi Karen

Poor Tia  :'(  :'(  :'(

My old cat Pierrot had to have his ear canal removed and they made an earhole for him further down which seemed to do the trick.  It looked awful as all surgery does but he soon healed and never had any problems after it.

I'm sure Tia will heal very quickly after her surgery.
