Replacement Milk Recipe for New-born puppies
« on: July 04, 2003, 11:24:37 AM »
As we have been discussing milk & rehydration formulas for very young puppies on another thread, here are 2 recipes taken from Betty Bloomfield's "Nursing & Hand Rearing New Born Puppies" (Able Publishing)

Milk Mixture
4 fl ozs Carnation Evaporated Milk
4 fl ozs boiled water that has been cooled
1 level teaspoon of glucose
1 small egg yolk, size no 4 (no white at all!)

NB: This mixture should not be given to sick, weak puppies

Rehydration Mixture
500 mls boiled water -cooled
12 gms (2 & a half teaspoons) glucose powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
pinch of bicarbonate of soda

NB: This is for emergencies, if a commercial mixture is unobtainable for any reason
