comb and elastic band method

Max is 8 months old and shedding a lot at the moment so thought I would try the rubber band and comb method to see if it is his puppy coat that needs to come out. Just combed his back and am scared by the amount that has come out. This method will only pull the dead hair out won't it? Am worried I am going to end up with a bald dog if I carry on!

Knowing nothing about grooming,
being the carer for Pepper and Ellie
came as a hairy shock to me!
I took CoL advice and used comb and
elastic band!Not much joy with Ellies
coat(showstyle girl) but with Pep(workertype)
BRILLIANT!  I thought she was black but
it turned out she was dark blue and had
a lovely shiny coat too under all the fluff!
Tons of fluffy came out and she didn't go
bald

I use this method with my two working girls.
I swear that what I remove one day, they grow again in the night.  
Don't worry, it just removes the dead undercoat and leaves a glossy top coat - eventually.

It's a brilliant way to remove that fluffy puppy coat    Please remember to put the fluff out for the birds to use to line their nests!

Its a great way to remove dead coat    keeping the skin tight will make it comfortable for little one

Been using on Jake since he was about 9 weeks old.  I now do him almost daily and get a good handful of fluff out in a 30 -45 minute session, but then he is a chocolate fluffy monster with super soft fur.

He is now almost 6 months and have started to notice some parts of his coat a slightly darker brown with more of a shine to it, not sure if this is adult coat coming through or summer coat 

Jake's coat is so soft and almost "sticky" I feel I need to do him practically every day now, his coat is soooo different to his sister Tia's.  I really do not want to have to have him clipped when he is older if I can avoid it.

Always put my hand on the skin just above the comb so it's not hurting him, it's amazing how much fluff comes out though.  I joked to the OH the other day that we should have saved the fluff from day one got someone to spin it and we could have made wool from it!

I've heard it's an excellent way of removing the dead hairs although I use a Coat King.  The amount of fluff that comes out is unbelievable but it's leaving Toby's coat smooth and silky, especially on his back.

Phew you've put my mind at rest so I will keep going. Would love to keep on top of it as don't really want to go down the clipping route.

I brush Pippa but doesn't seem to get much out.
