With my worrying with Olllie last few years - Harry came with be being so worried about what ifs etc.  I question what I feed him, where I walked him, flea and tick - all became so problematic.

While I didn't see this - I was suddenly made aware of this by the nurse at my vets....who firmly told me to just enjoy my puppy and stop worrying.

Easier said than done :005:

Thanks all for the feedback....just to add Harry's groomer uses spot on and said on one occasion she saw a couple on one of her 3 dogs and bought Nexgard for them them next month went back to spot on...an idea but unlike her only one Harry and 3 tablets in pack.  Did think that maybe use through spring summer and then do spot on rest of the year.

It certainly is an idea about the spray Jayne. I found the EU data on Nexgard and it wasn't too worrying - why do we not print data like that  >:D Vixien thank you for your reply. Still conflict.  I have always used Advantix spot on, but vets don't stock it and even with a prescription it is pricey, so I get it from French vet company.

Thank you for your good wishes....this has come as a real shock but I just have to get on with it.

You are such a fantastic punch on here :luv:

- just had a thought  :shades: - I used to have the same problem putting on the pads and gel for Humphreys TENS treatment, the physio suggested wetting the hair to help part it, a bit of water in a little pump spray just made it damp enough.  :luv:

I have always used a tablet Program for my previous 2 cockers but now they have changed the formula and it is prescription only . When Maisie was a puppy the vet suggested bravecto.  I did try it but wasn’t keen on giving a tablet that had 3 months of chemicals in it.  I also found that it didn’t last the full 3 months either.  I then went on to spot on that I could order on line.  I am very very vigilant with flea treatment having had an infestation with Marley and Stevie.  However, to my absolute horror we had another infestation this summer  >:D   When i did my research, I found that the chemicals in the spot on don’t enter the blood stream (logical really as it is not injected or ingested) and remains in the fat layer.  This is normally sufficient but when you have water loving dogs (Maisie and Ned), the spot on is just not effective hence the infestation.  I spent a fortune spraying the entire house, washing their bedding, buying difffernt flea treatment.  It took a good 3 months to get over.  I vowed never ever again.  I then looked for alternative treatment which would be effective and chose NEXGARD.  i prefer that it is a once a month preparation and does actually get in their blood system and so far it is working.  it is also very easy to give to them compared to the spot on. My vet gives me a prescription for it and I am then able to order it  on line at a much cheaper price.  In an ideal world i wouldn’t use any chemicals on or in my dogs but I know how miserable the dogs were last summer and I never want to go through an infestation every again.  Even the word makes me shiver  :005:

My own personal view (although I appreciate everyone has their own ) is that I wouldn’t give Humphrey any form of chemical anti parasite treatment in tablet form. I don’t really feel happy even with the spot on but the year before last, despite Billy No Mates, I was sometimes removing up to ten ticks daily which wasn’t exactly healthy either so last year he had a spot on and that did seem to do the trick. I‘m not quite sure as to how important is it to get it directly onto the skin? If you managed to get it as deep into the hair as possible and then rubbed it in, would that suffice maybe? What does the vet think? There must be loads of dogs with very thicks coats....Only other alternative would be a collar?
Very best of luck for your surgery Julie,  :bigarmhug: from me and bum wiggles and waggy tails from Humph‘  :luv: :luv:

Help - so I have found Harry's coat very difficult to use spot on - no matter how you try even with end tail comb(old one of mine) I don't get really down to near skin.

Has Harry is going to be in the care of his Master due to me having surgery I was looking to a pill treatment.

Just reluctant to give Bravecto as it last 3 months in system. Vets mention that Bravecto is now in spot on too, but that comes back to Harry's thick coat.  They care both Bravecto but will order the Nexgard for me.

What are your thoughts anyone used Nexgard.
