Barking at the door
« on: September 07, 2021, 09:37:14 PM »
Hello all!

I have a 1 yr old wcs who is a very chilled dog on the whole apart from when people come up the path - then she barks/ growls. Never acts on it, just makes a fuss.

I live in a small village and got her during lockdown, so she wasn’t used to having people come up to the house for the first few months we had her.

Out of the house she is completely docile, friendly/ unbothered by strangers, so this makes me think it’s definitely a territorial thing.

An example would be, plumber comes up to the house, she goes crazy barking/growling, they come inside and she can’t settle and will continue to bark and growl.

Any tips on reducing this behaviour or ways to handle these situations when they happen? Currently if visitors come over I introduce them on neutral territory at the bottom of the garden and this she is completely fine, it’s if people come up to the door unannounced that the craziness begins!

Would really appreciate any feedback :)

Thanks
