Hiya,
I know what you mean about vets "lining their pockets" I once experienced the same but with a cat.
He has a noticable heart murmer, he has been castrated and at the grand age of 13 has just been "under" to have a dental done.
He is absolutley fine i think it's whether you have trust in your vets and whether they are honest enough to you.
My vets don't see it as a problem and never have they always said if he needed to go "under" they just adjust things accordingly, simple they say.
If i was you i would whisk him off to a another vet for a second oppinion and get those "walleys" off. The stress he is suffering when he smells those sexy ladies is just not nice for you or him.
Best of luck
My sister just had her Newfoundland dog in to the vet to get his Walleys off too, he's much better now with life!
