So sorry to hear this Karen but relieved Penny is ok. We haven't experienced a uterine torsion but did lose a litter and nearly their Mum too (with peritonitis) so know a little bit about what you're going through at the moment. Nature can be very cruel sometimes :'(

Thanks for all your support and replies, guess I'll always wonder why :-\ Have told the sire's owner and she's never known of this before so I guess it is a real rarity, no consolation though. :'(

So sorry to hear what you've been through and that you lost the pups, but pleased that Penny is safe and going to be ok.
I haven't experienced a uterine torsion either but did have to undergo an emergency caesarean (and spay) which resulted in one dead pup with Neneh two years ago.
I know at the time that all I wanted was for my girl to be ok and so I know your relief that Penny is still with you.

Sending all our love and hugs to Penny.

Still can't believe that everything went so horribly wrong. As Sheryl has already said no one could have done more than you Karen.

Hoping that Penny is soon feeling better and that you and the family are ok

Take care

Karen, I'm dreadfully sorry about the pups, but also extremely glad Penny is OK. I suppose it's just one of those unexplainable conditions that's very rare. The main thing is that you have saved Penny's life by being so vigilant. I had problems with my last litter and spent 3 weeks in tears  :'( It can be extremely rewarding when things go right but devastating when things go wrong. Keep your chin up  ;)

Thanks again everyone, Penny has slept for most of the day and she's on antibiotics and analgesics so she's relatively painfree. I've seen the cut and it's not too big (not that that matters) and it looks fine, so I'll just keep an eye on that. She didn't want to eat all day until it was the usual tea time for everyone and she had a small amount of food, so she must feel alittle better in herself. She seems quiet but doesn't seem to missing anything as Phoebe and Logan have been giving her a bit of gentle attention, although for most of the time I have had Penny with me in another room where it has been quiet and I could give her all my attention.
