Taking background out of photo's

I want to have some pics of the girls put onto canvas, but would like to take out the background before I order them.

Does anyone know if any of the free photo editing progs do this ? ..would like to sharpen one too if poss  :D

Hi suzysu,
I have a image manipulation program that is free and runs on the windows platform im sure they do one for Vista and i don't think there is a 64xbit V. but it was originally used on the Linux platform when windows users wanted to use it so there you go here is the link to the site

hope this help's if you want to know how to select the back ground or foreground of an image just PM my mum or post again.

Was wondering if it was easy to do? As am hopeless with the pc (and the camera), OH just laughs pityingly at me. I'd like a piccy of the dogs and kids done, but they were too expensive with company I saw advertising

i use paintshop pro myself have done for years, but tubing can be fiddley with it, making sure the tube (image without background) looks good on other coloured backgrounds, never tried gimp but it looks like i may well do soon lol

heres an image i did of my parrot after he died  :'(



i removed the background and added my own then played about with different effects

i plan on making pics with amber in, just need a decent camera first
