Editing
« on: December 29, 2010, 06:39:13 PM »
I do not have any photo editing programs. Apart from the ones that came free with my camera Canon 450d. I am thinking of getting Photoshop 9  is this program OK or is there any other programs you could recommend

Thanks Ian

It depends on how much you want to do - Photoshops Elements should easily give you all the editing scope you need and is considerably cheaper.

I have PSE 8 and it's plenty enough for what I need so yes, I'd go for it  ;)

Or download the Gimp for free - it does pretty much what PS does  ;)

I have a Mac and there is a Gimp version for it that I downloaded.
TBH I rarely use it as the instructions are quite complicated ( or it could just be that I am thick)  :005: :005: If you can understand it, it does do an awful lot.  ;)
I have found the software that was included with my camera quite adequate for my needs and much easier to understand.  ;)

Why not look up a class at your local Adult Learning centre? They are government subsidised so very reasonable and will probably teach using PSE

Here we go http://www.gimp.org/

Download button top right.

It is quite fiddly to use and not very intuitive. To use it effectively you really need to get your head around the concept of "layering" which can take time.  However, if you have specific issues there's always lots of help available if you Google. I tend to use Gimp for more "design" type photo editing (creating logos, getting rid of backgrounds etc) and Google Picasa for simple photo enhancement, cropping etc
