:'( Well Snoopy has been to the vets this morning and they are still unsure what is wrong with him, last week they thought he may have Lymes Dieseae, but couldn't treat for that last week as he hadn't the full range of symptoms or a fever, so asked to see him this week if he didn't get better.
Well at the weekend we thought we'd turned a corner he was eating me out of house and home and couldn't wait to have his meals, unfortunately that didn't last so yesterday I noticed he had lots of white drool from his mouth, prior to eating, almost like he was gagging, but wasn't being sick. Anyway I've just taken him back to the vets this morning and they don't know whats wrong with him he now has a fever and has a very sore throat, which in the vets words might mean that he has an infection or something blocking his throat. So they have decided to treat him for infection, but if no better by Thursday am he has to go back and have a general to have a look down his throat, I'm really worried about him, he even didn't follow me around the house this morning, which is so scarry as he is normally glued to my side, so I've decided to work from home today and keep him company, at present he's asleep on the sofa having had his first antibiotic, so fingers crossed it is a bad infection and nothing else.
-
So sorry to hear about Snoopy Cheryl, I hope its nothing too serious and that the ab's kick in soon, sending him healing thoughts :luv:
-
You should begine to se a change soon if it's an infection - honestly, it can just knock them for six, Ham is a differnt dog when he's ill.
I think the vt is doing the right thing - at least they arn't going ahad with anything invasive till they try this first. He may just be really tired out and ned to rest while the antibiotics do their stuff.
-
Poor snoopy, I hope he's feeling better soon.
Hugs to you and Snoops
Tracey, Blue and Charlie

Have they done a full biochemistry yet ? what made them suspect Lyme's without a high fever ? is he limping intermittently ?
-
Thanks for all the kind thoughts I've given Snoopy lots of hugs and attention, he just seems to want to sleep all the time, its really sad to see him like this he is usually so hyper, so fingers crossed some improvements will be see soon.
Have they done a full biochemistry yet ? what made them suspect Lyme's without a high fever ? is he limping intermittently ?
No biochemistry doen yet they want to leave unless he doesn't improve I tried getting them to take blood this morning but they wouldn't  They suspected it was Lyme's as he had been unlucky to have had ticks over the past month and apparently there is an increase in this country of this dieseas as a result of the Pet Passport Scheme, whereby illnesses which are not su :huh:pposed to be in the UK are being brought by pets who have been away, with the owners not aware they have any :huh:hing wrong with them ph34r. He hasn't limped and still at times runs round like a cocker, but at the moment he just wants to lay still :'(
-
Hope he's feeling better soon xx :luv: :luv:
-
Lyme has always been in this country - perhaps they meant another tick borne disease ?
If he doesn't improve on these antibiotics in 48 hours I would insist on a full biochem - they can tell a lot from bloods.
-
Lyme has always been in this country - perhaps they meant another tick borne disease ?
i think they do penel - they're obviously anxious about the dog that died in kent from a 'foreign tick' borne disease - definitely wasn't lymes in that case and it has been a bumper year for native 'deer' ticks in the uk for some reason :-\
cheryl, hope snoops improves on the anti-b's and they do the trick - thinking of you both, and jarv is sending manly cocker hugs. x
-
Hope Snoopy gets better soon, its awful when they're ill
-
Get well soon Snoopy !!!

-
Hope Snoopy is much better very soon.
-
You poor thing - and poor Snoopy too...thinking of you both and sending ((((((((((BIG HUGS)))))))) to you both.
-
Get well soon, Snoopy. :luv: It's so worrying when they're under the weather not their mad-Cocker-selves. I'm sure the antibiotics will kick in soon and he'll be back to himself before you know it.
-
Gell Well Soon Snoopy Sunshine :luv:

Thanks for all the lovely messages, Snoopy is going back to the vets this morning as he wont let me put anitbiotics in his mouth and yelps in pain :'( when I try to open his mouth, I don't see any improvement if anything he looks worse, although he did manage to annoy the cat this morning. Fingers crossed.
-
Good luck at the vets today - hope you get to the bottom of things

Good Luck! All fingers and paws crossed for the gorgeous Snoopy...

Snoopy has seen a lovely vet this morning who decided to keep him in overnight to put IV antibiotics and fluid into him, also to complete an investigation into his throat, as he feels it could be 1 of 3 things:
1. Infection in his slavation gland
2. Slvation gland blocked, which could mean re-directing it, as he doesn't like to remove them unless really necessary, or
3. Tumour (got really scared at this point, having had cancer myself)
We had a long discussion and he feels that is 1 or 2, but will call me once he has had a look and completed some investigations, can't tell you how scared I am or how much I am worried about the little guy. He's also got to stay in overnight which is the 1st time he hasn't been with us since we got him, so it seems really weird at home at the moment, even Tigger (the arch enemy cat) is missing him, he is laying by the side of me, which is a first for him and me. It was really weird at the vets when he put his lead back on him he the vet opened the door to take him in the hospital section of the vets and he pulled the vet through the door without looking back at me, it almost seemed like he knew that he was going to be made better.
Big thank you to Rachel this morning for being around when I needed a friend to talk to and reassure me, also thanks to you for the kind messages and wishes.
Once I know anything I will let you know the update. Fingers crossed he recovers quickly so he can come home, I miss him.
-
Sounds like you've got a good vet there Cheryl, who is doing the best thing for Snoopy.
Wishing you both the best and try to keep yourself busy today.
-
Awwww, poor little Snoops! And poor you - keep your chin up! I'm sure he'll back home soon to cause havoc and wind-up Tigger! Lots of love and hugs from Henry and I.

Thinking about you and Snoopy, I'm sure he'll be back home soon and in the meantime he's got a great vet to look after him :luv:

:luv:
-
Big woofs and licks coming snoopy's way from my lot. Hope he is back chasing Tigger soon and snuggling with you on the sofa.
-
Thank you God
The vet as just phoned and said that Snoopy is coming round from the anesthetic, he found a hughed abscess under his tongue, with really bad infection and very swollen tongue as a result. He's x-rayed the tongue which has a large mass at the bottom of it to make sure nothing nasty in it, but thinks the mass is due to the size of the absecess/infectio. He was really surprised that we hadn't seen more symptoms others than those over the past days and I think he was surprised that the senior vet I saw last night didn't do anything more then, but we'll leave that for them to sort out between them, the important thing is Snoopy will be ok. He's also checked for bones/twigs, etc that could have caused it and found nothing, so he is still on heavy anti-inflamatories, antibiotics and fluids and they are going to try and get him to eat something tonight, so fingers crossed he will eat as he's not permitted out of hospital until he has eaten something, so Snoopy please eat, so you can come home :luv:. They are thinking that provided everything okay today and in the morning that he will be able to come home tomorrow- yippie :D can't tell you how relieved I am and happy.
-
:D Thats excellent news :D
Eat your dinner Snoopy so you can come home ;)
-
Poor boy - sounds painful :-\ Hopefully he will feel better now that he's getting the proper treatment
-
Poor Snoopy, that sounds awful :o but on the other hand I'm really glad that at least now they know what it is and how to treat him. All fingers, legs and paws are crossed hoping that he eats tonight so he can come home :luv: :luv:
-
it sounds awful cheryl but i'm so glad they've found the problem and it wasn't 2 or 3 in your list.
(and i'm very glad that you saw a different vet today.... ;))
gentle squidge to poor sore snoops xx
-
Poor Snoopy ; no wonder he felt under the weather!! :'(
I'm so pleased that you've got to the bottom of it Cheryl; you must be incredibly relieved.
Here's hoping he's soon back home with you & that he carries on improving. ;)
-
Poor Snoopy, but so relieved it wasn't worse. Tilly sympathises as she was once stung by a bee on the tongue and the vet had to remove the sting with tweezers - her tongue was very swollen and it hurt :'(. Get well soon Snoopy and EAT YOUR DINNER :luv:
Sue and Tilly
-
Goodness me what a scare - but I am so glad it wasn't any worse...
Come on Snoopy - eat your dinner so you can come home.
Huge (((hugs)))) for all of you :-*
-
Thank goodness it was not number 2 or 3 on your list. Hope he's home soon. Grubs up Snoopy.
-
So relieved for you Cheryl  hope Snoopy is back home very soon.
-
Yey - glad it's all sorted & Snoops is getting the right treatment now - get better soon little one & eat your dinner so you can go home for TONS of spoiling from your mum!!!! :luv:
-
Poor Snoops, at least hes on the right treatment now and on the road to recovery ;)
-
What a relief! Not nice for poor little Snoopy, but at least it wasn't anything more serious.
-
Thanks to you everyone for all your kindness, it really helped me through today :luv: I can't tell you what a rollercoaster of emotions I've been through today, but I know that I'm not alone in feeling that way. It was hard for me to allow someone else to take control of the siutation, as my job means I'm in charge, so guess that was one of the reasons why I found it so hard to not be a Control Freak :005:
I will definetly give the vet a big hug tomorrow and say a big thank you to him, he was great, will remember to ask for him or my normal vet next time and not let the stroppy receptionist (who tried to diagnose) dictact who I see next time, it was just unfortunate that I didn't speak to one of the others, who are always really helpful.
Thank you all once again your simply the best :luv:
-
Only just seen this thread . Glad to hear they have found out what it is. Nothing worse than them being ill and not knowing why. at least with an infection the antibiotics will kick in quite quickly and Snoopy will start to feel better :D.
Snoopy eat your dinner!!!! That's an order !!
-
So glad they've found out what the problem is, so they can treat it now. It's awful when your pet has to be away from you. One of my cats, Charlie, had to spend over a week with our vet recently when he had a urinary tract blockage that kept recurring, and they had to make several attempts at inserting a catheter (under general anaesthetic each time). It's so frightening when you don't know whether they're going to get better or not. Fortunately for us, he did.
Hope you have Snoopy home asap.

So glad you are feeling a bit better now hun - hope you and Snoopy are reunited tomorrow; and that we see you both soon; you know how much Molo misses his "bezzy-mate" :005:
You're not the only one to fall foul of the "support staff" at that Practice; but at least there are a few good vets there who re-instill our faith in the profession :-\
-
Glad to hear they know what it is now - do they know how it happened - could it be stick chewing or something - left a splinter in his tongue ?
Hope he is ok soon,
-
Oh I am so sorry that I have missed this today. I have just come on for the first time.
What an awful day, but what a fabulous result. I hope he will make a speedy recovery now. Poor boy. Do you think cockers are ever stoics? Sounds like Snoopy is! ;)
(((HUGS)))
-
any news on snoops cheryl?
-
:D Sorry for not updating sooner but was sooo excited this morning when the vet called to say Snoopy could come home this pm, well actually lunchtime to be precise..... he is sleeping at my feet as I type, he's on special puppy food which he isn't too keen on, so he ws allowed scrambled egg for lunch instead, it was soo good to see him eat again I can't tell you. He is on pain killers and antibiotics for the next week and he having his check up on Monday, so fingers crossed that he is A ok now. The x-rays didn't reveal anything nasty in his tongue so the vet feels that it was eaither, piece of bone, Twig (which is my belief) or perhaps a blade of grass/hay that he chewed on when he was out over the past weeks. He also thinks that it was there for sometime, which explained why he wasn't food orientated over the past weeks :-\ Just glad to have him home for loads of cocker cuddles, not sure yet through whether we'll be going to COL next week, we'll leave that to Snoopy to make a decision.
Thank you to you all. :luv:
-
YAYYYYYY!!!!
so pleased you have him home
give him a gentle squidge from me :-* :-*
-
Just caught up on this ... what a worry it's been for you
Glad Snoopy :luv: is a lot better and home with you now ...
-
Glad he is home
-
Bless him. I bet he's feeling better already. It must have been awful, but how would you possibly have guessed at that for a reason?
So pleased he's home with you again.
-
Sorry missed all this drama!
Great to hear he is making a good recovery Cheryl and that it wasn't a tumour, I remember having a blocked saliva duct when i was in my twentys and i have to say it was excruciating every time i smelt any food - wish i had your vet, my GP actually gave me a prescription for sherbert lemons!
Anyway tell Snoopy to keep up the good work as Lucy is looking forward to a date :D
-
Oh Cheryl - I'm so sorry I missed all of this ph34r good job there are some reliable people on COL ph34r
Anyway - glad Snoopy is ok, and you too. Hope he starts to like his puppy food - if not scrambled egg is great - my two love it
Big hug to you and the nutters send gentle ggrrrrr's to Snoopy
-
Snoopy update.......... :D Well we had out check up last eve and the lovely :luv: vet explained that he had a golf ball size abscess under his tongue which was filled with ..... :P He then had tissue growth down the back of throat, which was causing his breathing problems, which I mentioned to the 1st vet who didn't seem interested in what I had to say, but never mind now Snoopy is eating and back on normal food and making up for all the weight he lost over the past weeks. He went out for his first exercise with Molo to the beach last eve and didn't stop running for ages, and then only to steel Molo's ball or treats from Rachel. He is back to the Hyperactive Puppy that I know and Love dearly, so hopefully he will be up to the COL meet on Sunday, weather dependent, etc.
Thank you once again for all the messages and hugs, I know Snoopy appreciated them.
Cheryl and Snoppy :luv:
-
Glad to hear he has recovered well ;)
-
Good news :D
