Odie on a drip - UPDATE - HE'S HOME. PHOTO ADDED
« on: April 12, 2013, 08:31:31 PM »
My poor baby took ill this morning and eventually collapsed in a heap in the kitchen  :'(

As some of you are aware, he has Addison's Disease and we were warned after the diagnosis last April to watch out for any relapses known as an  "Addisonian Crisis".  These can be triggered by stress/other illness etc but we've never experienced one until now.  Symptoms include not eating/drinking/excessive shaking and lethargy.

I rushed him to the vets where he was put on a drip - he was dehydrated and had a high temp.  Bloods came back OK for his usual balances which are checked every few months but his pancreas enzymes were raised so more investigation is required.  The vet even commented that he'd aged 10 years.....

Healing thoughts very much appreciated for my special boy  :luv:
Both taken away from us far too soon. x  RIP Angels Odie & Archie, causing mayhem at the Rainbow, no doubt!

Thanks  :luv:  I'm not sure whether it was me or Odie having the worst shakes sitting in the vets this morning!  There was a cute little black girlie cocker trying to snuggle into him and all he could manage is one little kiss then nothing - so not like Odie....

Funnily enough, Pancreatitis symptoms are very similar to Addison's and that's why it's difficult to tell them apart.  Something like that could trigger an episode like this.

The house is empty and strange  :-\

Really sorry to hear this  :'(

Before Odie had his diagnosis, he suffered the same symptoms for about 2 weeks, of course we had no idea what it meant at the time but was really lucky that I got him to the vets and they found out what it was very quickly.  It's not pleasant to witness your dog ageing and collapsing in front of your eyes though  :-\

Thanks everyone, really helps as I just feel helpless atm.
