I think they have slightly different purposes - Pearl has different brands at different times of year depending on the local parasite variety and population  . Your Vet should be able to advise which the best one is for now

I chose Advantage for Smudge when Frontline stopped working, I now use it for Minstrel with success (as in not seeing any wee beasties)

I get mine from vetuk as opposed to the vets as they are cheaper and sometimes have special offers on.

I use advantage on my lot (dogs and cats)

try http://www.animeddirect.co.uk/dogs/flea-treatment-for-dogs as its cheaper than at vets (you just need to register your dog 1st)
