I won't take credit for discovering this product - i was told about it by an amasing lady called Heather Ridley who kindly talked me through trying to save a puppy at 11pm one night!!!

Clare thanks for that - I have some Life Aid myself which I bought at a the United Spaniel Association seminar last year where Heather gave a really good talk about her work saving puppies!!  I have used it as well with good results and as you say the colour is rather off putting!

Heather really knows her stuff and she is completely self taught. She has her own recipy for whelping milk which i am going to get a copy of before our next litter. It is supposed to be more easy to swallow and digest for the puppy.

The best life aid is the Liquid form. The shop near me sells it - if you cant get some near you i can send you a bottle (or some of my stock - it goes a very long way! and usually goes out of date before we can use most of it!).

As for the boiled rice - make sure you use freshly boiled rice each day  - old rice can cause food poisoning.
Boiled eggs are also good but try a slice at a time to begin with. White boiled fish is also good for settling poorly tummies.

All done now Jane, but i took your bit of the message off and mucked up saving it :-! And in answer to your message, you are welcome to the life aid when you need it! ;D

I will have to look up that recipy you suggested - its always usefull to have some back up! And i'm not convinced that Whelpi is much crack!

But you can garuntee that if you have puppies they will always start to play you up late at night when the shops are closed - and it always seems 10 times worse at night! I don't mind anyone calling me 24 - 7 if i can help them save a puppy, even if it just borrowing bottles and teats or sterilising tablets. and if i have got a supply of life aid in then they are welcome to it any time (and i mean ANYTIME)!!!

I have to thank both Yvonne and Lesley for their help when i have had puppy crisis moments! They are total stars! Can i add you, Jane, to my emergency phone list ;D????

Jane - i saw Ken a couple of weeks ago! Mentioned i had met you on line - were your ears burning?????

I'll post Betty's milk recipe as a new thread on the Breeding Forum & also her recipe for home-made electrolyte solution (don't want to go off topic too much here). By the way is Life Aid bright yellow? If so, it's probably v similar to Liquid Lectade which is marketed for farm animals but also seems to be recommended for puppies - I've seen this stuff on the Vetmed website recently.

Jane

PS No ears burning here as far as I can remember ;D

Linda

The powdered one goes an orange colour when mixed up  :-X- it is probably similar to Liquid Lectade.

I'm gonna copy off those recipies for my notes, Thanks Jane ;)

;DHi all

Good news its been nearly 24 hours since Indie was last sick!!!!!  I phoned the vet this morning as arranged and they said unless she starts being sick again there is no need for the x-rays etc :D  So I just hope she will be ok now ::)  I am still feeding her small amounts every hour at the moment.  I will try and reintroduce normal food tomorrow and I am putting her on puppy Nutro, the vet thinks now that the food a local breeder advised me to put her on is the cause of Indies troubles.  As she only swapped to this on Tuesday, its just a local mill produced puppy food.  So I won't be taking their advise again :-  It was either that or a little bug she has picked up.  Trouble is now I am not keen to take her out in my arms again, in case she picks something else up, her 2nd vac is not due for another 2 weeks, but am concerned about the lack of socilalisation.  Not sure what to do really just don't want to risk her health, it was such a worrying time with sleepless nights and I don't want her to go through that again!

Thank you all so much for your kind wishes, advise and support, much appreciated!!!

The vaccinations are for certain doggy deseases and wont stop her picking up bugs. But her immune system is still developing and getting out and about is what builds it up!
(don't put her on the floor though untill your vet says it's ok and keep her away from obvious infections!)

I was told to think of a puppy like a baby - you would not put a baby in direct risk of infection but it wouldn't stop you from taking them out! ;) . Like babies puppy's tend to be more sicky! My carpet will vouch for that!

Changing her food in one day may have upset her tummy. She may well be ok on this food when she is a little older- so don't be too upset with the person who advised you :)

;DHi all

Good news its been nearly 24 hours since Indie was last sick!!!!!
Emma I have been wondering all day how you are getting on and so pleased that Indie is recovering.  It must have such a worry for you.  As regards socialisation, when she is fully better - could you have a welcome Indie party at your home and invite friends with children round and other well behaved dogs?   Nutro is excellent puppy food - I used it for my last litter and they were the best ever puppies!
