Lola off to the vets.UPDATE...results
« on: January 30, 2009, 04:18:24 PM »
Lola is off to the vets as she isn't putting any weight on her back left leg  went for a morning walk and she bogged off for about 5 Min's and when she came back she was pulling her left leg up occasionally but still running about and was fine when we got home...she has had a nap and wouldn't get up when OH came home  :-\ she eventually got up but was walking on 3 legs...i wouldn't normally bother taking her to the vets so soon and would just rest her over the weekend and keep an eye on her but i have never been really happy about her back legs as she has always had a waddle/swing from her hips when she walks....she pulls her right leg up on nearly every single walk just lately (was doing it intermittently) she stumbles when lead walking and there is a distinctive click coming from her back end when she gets up...lays down or jumps....The vets had planned to x-ray her back legs when she is spayed but i feel we need to have a look sooner  :-\ just wonder if this is why she has been off/snappy with other dogs just lately  :-\
will let you know how we get on  ;)

We have a similar problem Ollie has a hop which is on and off - sometimes he does it a lot sometimes not.

Last time he went to the VETS they treated it as a sprain but mentioned a loose knee - its got worse again this week so he's going back tonight - see what they say this time.

Hope Lola is ok!?  :-*

Lola has to go in on wed for a GA and x-rays...which in a strange way I'm glad of as at least we will know one way or the other  we saw the orthopedic vet which was handy and he seems to think its Luxating patella and not HD... i dont know which is better or worse as i have no experience of either  :-\
He did say she had under developed muscle tone in her back legs which i was surprised at as i always thought she had large solid back leg muscles...you can actually see them and not just feel them  so we just have to wait until wed now to see what the results are...please send her healing wishes  ;)
Just thought of something else ...if it is what he thinks it is would she be better being referred or because they have there own orthopedic surgeon would she be ok getting it done there...i just want to make sure if it comes to it she gets the best treatment  ;)

She should be fine with their orthopedic surgeon  ;)

Hoping it's something very simple

Aww poor Lola, I hope they can see what the problem is when they x-ray her. Rodaidh had a luxating patella diagnosis and surgery last year, if you want any info on what happened pm me. The orthopaedic vet we were referred to was fantastic so I have loads of info on it. If it is LP once they can see what grade it is then the treatment options become a lot clearer. You could ask your vet who you would be referred to for surgery if they didn't do it, speak to both and see which one you think would be best. My vet does do ortho surgery and could have done Rodaidh's op but he suggested that I go to the specialist as he has such a good reputation for fixing working dogs, he really was first class and Ro has had no problems at all since.

This is the thread about Rodaidh's leg in case it's helpful, it's really long though!

Thanks Nicola...i remember Rodaidhs op as it wasnt that long ago and i remember the long thread  :005: but it was very informative  ;)
No doubt if the diagnosis is LP then yes i will be on your case  :005: hopefully its not too bad news but will have to wait and see
as far as i can remember Rodiadh didnt have any symptons before hand  :-\ but i am quite old so my memory could be wrong  ::)
Thank you everyone for you kind thoughts...just keeping fingers crossed as i have no idea how Lola would do crate rest  :o   :-\
