You could ask your vet who you would be referred to for surgery if they didn't do it, speak to both and see which one you think would be best. My vet does do ortho surgery and could have done Rodaidh's op but he suggested that I go to the specialist as he has such a good reputation for fixing working dogs, he really was first class and Ro has had no problems at all since.

When Murphy had his LP he went to a specialist - he was brilliant too and Murphy was up and about in no time. It was amazing how quickly he regained his muscle after with gentle exercise. Now his hair has nearly all grown back you wouldn't know the difference. He has fantastic muscle tone now and is faster than ever.

Thanks Nicola...i remember Rodaidhs op as it wasnt that long ago and i remember the long thread  but it was very informative 
No doubt if the diagnosis is LP then yes i will be on your case  hopefully its not too bad news but will have to wait and see
as far as i can remember Rodiadh didnt have any symptons before hand  but i am quite old so my memory could be wrong

He had no real signs until the day his knee came out of joint for the first time. I thought he'd dislocated his hip at first but it pulled back in again and I didn't know what the heck was going on. As it turned out that was the strained ligament rupturing at last and once it had gone his knee was in and out all the time over the next few weeks, it was only the ligament that had been holding it in place. I was worried sick but he coped brilliantly with the crate rest and has made a full recovery. Fingers and paws all crossed here for Lola that it's not that though

We took her out today for a shortish walk (compared to what she normally gets) just to see if it was any better  but Lolas problem is she doesnt pootle...shes runs at full pelt ..leaping..jumping..diving and covers as much ground as possible  and i could see after the first 5 mins she was pulling her left leg up constantly and then her right leg was coming up  i will be quite glad when wednesday comes in some respects as at least we will know one way or the other  If it was Biba she would happily do crate rest for 6 months 
Just another question ..if it is LP should i inform her breeder (Biba and Lola are from the same breeder but not related) She kept Lolas sister so not sure if she should be made aware of it
