I really feel for you, my Tessa had the same operation, and she made a full recovery, apart from a bit of stiffness in her hind legs you would never have known what she had been through.  That is a good sign that Hendrix has feeling in his legs already.  Tessa was older, she was nine, and she went on to live for nearly four more years.

Luckily she came to work with me, and I supported her with a sling while until she got the full use of her legs back.  The cage rest is a difficult time, but is only for a few weeks and to see her getting stronger everyday and eventually walk again was the best gift I could ever have had.

Thank goodness Hendrix was diagnosed early, and he does have a very good chance of making a full recovery too.  My thoughts are with you both at this difficult time!

As some of you know, Hendrix suffered paralysis in his hind quarters on Monday 16th February when a disc in his spine suddenly exploded. Following and MRI scan and emergency spinal surgery, he now seems to be able to feel his hind legs, although still only slightly. He has had one session of hydrotherapy and will be kept in the Queen Mother hospital for some time yet. We were allowed to visit him for the first time today and took some pictures as a photo diary of his recovery as we know it will be very slow, but we believe he can and will get better. I have put more of the photos on my Facebook and hope to add to them as Hendy recovers, until we can video him on the move again!

The good news today is that the biopsy on the removed disc showed there is no tumour, which the surgeons had been concerned about.

Trying so hard to stay positive, although seeing his hind quarters being supported in a sling and the 14 inch operation scar was really difficult, The staff at the hospital are lovely and settled Hendy outside on a rug for our visit as it was such a lovely morning. We spent about an hour with him, and groomed and fussed him, which he loved!

Thanks again for all your positive comments - they have really helped us when we've found the going tough.

Angie

It must be so very hard to watch your dear Hendrix going through this and to feel that there is nothing you can do to help.

I am so sorry.

I really hope that he will make wonderful progress and soon be back home with you.

Hendrix is a very lucky boy having you as a mum, it must be so distressing for you to see him so sick.  :luv:
