Contact Allergy any advice
« on: September 03, 2010, 08:09:51 AM »
Three weeks ago took Hattie to the vets because under her arm pits were very raw and bald  :o.  The vet said it was contact allergy and gave her steroid tablets, after a few days she was violently sick ( probably something she ate in the woods ::)) so could not carry on taking the tablets so the vet gave her a slow or long acting steroid injection.  She is still itchy and bald on one side of her arm pit more than the other.  Do any of you know how long it should be before we see some results and if there is anything we can put on her either before we go out like a barrier cream or anything to help stop the scratching.  I have bathed her in Epi Soothe.

Have you tried anti-histamine tablets or cream, even Rescue Remedy Cream works well.

My pup is exactly the same.  I bathe her is Maleseb shampoo.  I did it twice in one week then once in the next week and I haven't had to do it again since.  I am in the process of changing her over on to Raw food diet as she still gets some complete to see if that changes her skin condition too.  I haven't had her on steriods or anything as she is still only 16 weeks and I wanted to try the shampoo first and it seems to be working.
There is a puddle on the floor,
tis there for all to see,
now is this puddle H20,
or is this K9 pee?
