Thinking of you and Charley, try not to worry too much I know easier said than done. I know what it's like to worry about them and GA's but like others have said they are such resilient little dogs. Jasper needed a GA a couple of months ago to have most of his teeth out (he has Lupus an AI condition) and he is fine :D. I on the other hand have more grey hairs than I did before >:( Positive cocker vibes coming your way from me and mine.

Keeping everything crossed for positive results from the tests. :bigarmhug:

If its not possible for Charley to have a GA, a solution for his teeth maybe antibiotics. Poppy who I lost last year at 13, had bad teeth and gums and the vet put her on a weeks course of AB's every 5 weeks and that really kept the inflammation and smell down. They wouldn't operate on her, either for her teeth or a wart she had on her head that she kept knocking the top off and they thought may have gone malignant.
