Charley is feeling much better.  Removing the source of infection has made a world of difference: he is much livelier today and he came downstairs with me when I got up.  For some months now I have left him asleep on the bottom of my bed.  We go back to see the vet on Wednesday.

I'm beginning to have second thoughts about his castration.  I don't want to put Charley through any more pain and stress so I shall ask the vet if he thinks that castration will prolong Charley's life and improve the quality.  He will be thirteen in January and I am wondering if it will be worth it for Charley's sake.

So pleased that Charley is doing so well. I think you know Charley better than any one and it is up to you to decide what the best treatment for him is.

Took Charley to the vet this morning for his check up, and all is well.  I spoke to the vet about his castration and he told me that it was only a minor operation and not invasive.  In the circumstances I'll arrange for Charley to be done in the New Year.

Pleased for you & Charley that the vet check went well.  :shades: :luv:

When Alfie was castrated, although he was only 15 mths old at the time, his recovery was very, very quick.  The following day you would never have know he had the op.  :luv:  It was more the case of watching he didn't touch the stitches  :shades:  and i don't know if we were just lucky but he never attempted to.  :-\  If you decide for sure to go ahead with castration & because Charley is older i would make sure someone is with him for the days afterwards.  :D

Firstly well done Charley for improving  :luv: !

I can agree with Nina'smum - we have just had Ollie done (and I know he's younger) but even straight after the op he was back to his looney self and only tried to lick his wound a hand full of times!!!

Good luck!!

So glad to hear he's ok. Re the castration; they literally remove the testicles from the sacs, sorry to be graphic, then they tidy up the loose skin. Obviously there are connecting bits which are cut but they are not opening up the abdomen and being invasive. Please be prepared for accidents in the home though, I only found out after Keli was done and in hindsight realised it was since the "de-frocking" as I call it that he couldn't make it downstairs or would finish wee'ing and walk off and it was still flowing.

Glad to hear Charley is feeling better, my GR who had a heart condition, was castrated at the age of 12 as a lump was found in one of his testicles.  I was amazed at how quick he recovered as I thought it would take a while due to his age, next day you wouldnt have thought hed had an op.  :luv:
