Poppies 1st season
« on: April 24, 2004, 07:06:47 PM »
Poppy has come into season today, my problem being we have a family walk planned tomorrow in the Lake District, do we have to cancel this or can I still take her but keep her on a short lead?

The first week isn't a problem. She can go on a walk and you can even loose her from the leash.  :)
Greetings,

I might tend to disagree - it's not just that at this early stage Poppy wont be 'caught', but more the effect that a bitch in heat can have on unneutered males you will inevitably encounter on your walk - you might find some owners of these unneutered males become a bit irate with you I'm afraid if Poppy is allowed loose and proves a bit of a tease

I agree with Mike on that one   :)
I would take her for the walk but keep her on a lead and don't take her where there are likely to be other dogs.  I do take my bitches out for a walk during the first week but always very early in the morning and to quiet places where there are not likely to be other dogs.

Thanks for your replies, checked them this morning.  Well we went to the Lakes, it was very quite so I let her off her lead, we did not meet another person or dog, it was wonderful.  Anyway that will be her last walk of lead for a while now.

Thanks
