Ham disabled puppy at Many Tears
« on: March 26, 2009, 08:19:38 PM »

 :luv: :luv: :luv:

26-03-09 This is Ham.  He is a 3 week old cocker and unlike other cockers of his age he cannot walk.  His front legs are splayed and he crawls pushing him self with his back legs around. Strangely when I manipulate the legs and ease gently I can get them with no trouble in the position I want. We will have him x-rayed but until then I made a sort of primitive apron to help his legs stay in position and it does help but it's only mark one of many better designs to come.

To adopt a dog from Many Tears Animal Rescue you will be home checked and you and all members of your family and any dog(s) who will be living with the dog MUST come to meet the new dog.  All our dogs are micro-chipped, inoculated and spayed/neutered unless there is a medical reason for not doing so.  If you are adopting a puppy you will need to provide details of training classes in your area. We ask for a minimum adoption fee of £150.  If you are interest in adopting please call the rescue centre between 10am and 4pm on 01269 843084. We are unable to return phone calls so please try again if your call is not answered.

Oh dear.  Hopefully they will be able to help him.  If they open a fund to help with his treatment, as they have done before for other dogs, I will send them something.

Oh bless him :luv:. He sounds like he's a swimmer puppy and there are things to do that can help this. I've found these links which can explain better than I can as I've never had to deal with this problem (yet, crosses fingers).

This one looks particularly good

I've also heard placing the puppy in a channel ( a row of hard back books or something similar) which they can touch the sides, also helps to strengthen as they push against it.

Your dog is your friend, partner & defender. You are his life, love & leader. He will be yours, faithful & true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.

He looks like a seal pup  :luv: :luv: :luv:

I love the way Many Tears give these wee dudes a chance rather than just putting them to sleep.

Does anyone know if this is one of the two pups that were being hand reared after the breeder dumped them on MT at one day old?  >:D >:D

No this is a different puppy. I think the other one was named Halo, although i looks like he's been taken off the web site for the moment. Probably to stop the phone calls untill he's ready for adoption  ;)
