Can someone please tell Dillon he is a spaniel and thus a gundog???   Dillon has never ever done this, but it sounds sooo cute that I wish he would...

It's cute until they can't find anything and get themselves into a frenzy looking for something to grab  ph34r

Nell (lab) always carries things in her mouth, and not just to greet us....Makes no difference to her what she carries realy  ::)  sometimes it's one of her cuddlies, if she can't find them she'll pick anything up,  Remote control   tea towel newspapers, her bedding   ::)  she'll even carry  my grandchildrens  coats  I think its a Gundog thing, all of my Labs have done this.

I agree, my collie would never have done this, Ronald definately wouldn't.
Nothing is safe in this house.  Some dogs I know bark and bark when you enter their house, mine don't bark or jump up, they are to pre-occupied with what they have in their mouths :D

The funniest time is when Mikey had something and Herbie didn't so he tried to pick up Ronald by the leg :005:

:005:  :005:  :005: got the funniest image in my head then, burst out laughing!

Am sure Dill thinks he is a different breed then :o, he jumps up and barks.....

Oh well, he does not retrieve either despite our best efforts to teach him, so perhaps he really does not believe he is a dog...!!!
(He does show some weird human tendancies...)

Miche, I bet the look on Ronald's face was a picture...

I read in James O'Heare's Separation Anxiety Work Book that this reaction to when we return home is an opposing emotional response to separation stress.
this dissipates over time but does account for the over exited greeting that usually occurs upon returning to a dog who is to a degree reactive to isolation.
As to the retrieved items well we are owned by gundogs after all.
All my three show the crazy behaviour when we are reunited so I guess all three sufer some form of separation stress when we are not together.(I know I do) ;)
My two workers Doug and Bayley always appear with a toy or shoe in their mouths but my old show goldie Oliver just barks and creates a bit.
Something very obvious in the breeding there ;)

Ditto for Alfie, he never brings anything to greet me but if I have shopping bags he practically tries to climb into them and he mugged some poor guy in the park last week who was walking along carrying a Tesco bag, I was mortified but thankfully he saw the funny side!  ph34r :005:
