I would also reccomend anyone who think that pack rules and dominance are relevant to the domestic dog have a read of John Fisher's Diary of a dotty dog doctor pages 105 to 112 and if you are like me you'll read this  and chuckle to your self how ridiculous this idea is.
Fisher really puts this theory to bed once and for all in this chapter and goes to show that even a world renowned dog trainer who used rank reduction can change how he thinks in the light of new research.
