Our springer Archie has not been well for a couple of weeks now and our lovely vet thinks he’s got fluid in his tummy. He’s going for an ultra sound on Monday to try and work out what the problem just praying our boy will be ok. He has become so precious to us in the 18 months he’s been with us.
On top of that Sweep has got a little growth on her chin and she is having an op on Thursday to remove it.
Next week is going to difficult with our fur babies. :luv: so any healing vibes would be appreciated.

Thanks for all your kind thoughts - Archie has had a comfortable weekend but he is clearly not right. We have had a gentle walk this morning which he clearly enjoyed as his tail wagged the whole time :luv:
Fingers crossed for tomorrow

So sorry to hear things are difficult at the moment with your precious boy. :'(
I am glad to hear he is still enjoying his walks though .
Everything crossed for tomorrow and also for Sweep's op - it is such a worry when they are not right :-\ :bigarmhug:
-
Pleased you had a nice walk today, thinking about you tomorrow.

Well dropped Archie off first thing & vet was on phone within the hour. Archie has a peri cardio effusion which means the sac surrounding his heart is filled with fluid - which is why his breathing was so laboured. They are currently draining off the fluid and he should be much more comfortable almost immediately.
The vet said that he couldn’t see anything sinister (tumour) that might be the cause although some dogs are susceptible to this particularly German Shepherds. In other dogs it’s something that happens and they go on to make a full recovery. So fingers crossed for the moment
Thanks once again for you thoughts - will keep you posted
-
I'm so glad the prognosis is looking good.
-
Oh that sounds positive! Keeping fingers crossed for good news later.....
In the meantime, more :bigarmhug:
-
That sounds more positive than what you were probably anticipating. Everything crossed for a good recovery for Archie.
-
Sounds hopeful - hope they can make him comfortable and he has no recurrence. :D
Is he home yet? You will be relieved to have him home with you :luv:
-
Less bad than I was expecting, hope things settle now.
-
Lots of hope here :D May it continue :bigarmhug:

Archie is home - we are so relieved. The vet said he was a poorly boy and they drained 300ml of fluid which is a huge amount. His breathing is much better tonight and he is sleeping off the sedation at the moment. Not before being hand fed chicken tit bits however...........😉
We just have to wait and see now - our next appointment is Monday, Fingers crossed it does not return
Thank you for all you kind thoughts and prayers - what a lovely forum this is.
Next challenge Sweeps op on Thursday ................. :-\
-
Glad he's feeling better. And lucky boy to be hand fed chicken. (Bonnie wants to know what other ways there are to eat chicken anyway?)
-
Oh that IS good news indeed! You must be so relieved to have him home, safe and sound, where he belongs. I think the hand-fed chicken tit bits will go a long way to aid his recovery, bless him.
All good wishes from Freddie and me for Sweep on Thursday and all the very best for Archie's review next Monday.
Do please let us know how they progress.
Sending more hugs [but not being clever enough to know how you insert the appropriate emoji!!]
-
So pleased it's not something awful :cool4:  :happydance:. Enjoy your chicken and get well soon.

Well a quick update. Sweep is home from her op today and promptly ate her turkey for dinner and is now fast asleep.
Archie I am pleased to say is a different dog 😀😀😀😀😀. He came bounding out of the house to greet me and he dragged his blanket outside and played chase me 👍👍👍 We are wondering if he has been feeling rotten for a while as his energy levels appear to be better than they have been for a while.
Still worrying that it’s nothing sinister when we return to the vet on Monday but for now we are just enjoying having him better :luv:
-
What a cheering bit of news :D Good wishes for Monday's review :luv:
-
Wonderful news
-
What a great update, will keep fingers and paws crossed that things continue to improve for you all :luv:
-
What a lovely update, positive thoughts for Monday.
-
Brilliant news, so happy to read this :D
Agree with you that Archie might have been feeling rough for a while. When Coco had a dental and lots of teeth out last summer, she was a different dog afterwards. I think dogs are very stoic and put up with pain and discomfort that we never would.
Glad to hear he is feeling so much more like himself :luv:
Good luck on Monday ;)
-
I'll echo the thoughts and good wishes from everyone else who's replied! Such good news for you all and a huge relief too.
All good wishes for Monday's review from Freddie cocker and myself!

We have been back for a checkup this afternoon & the vet has given our boy the all clear :cool4: :cool4: :cool4: :cool4: :cool4:
He gave him a quick ultra sound and there is no new fluid - yipeeeeee! This week Archie has lost 3kg of fluid - poor chap was really poorly.
Anyway thanks for all your good vibes - it really works and let’s hope we don’t have to go through that again.
Sweep is also recovering well and we haven’t had to use the cone of shame!
