Nervous Cocker
« on: February 08, 2006, 11:52:29 AM »
Hi long time no contact COL My blue roan cocker is called Alfie - now nearly 3yrs old. Have had him since birth(well nearly), Has always been a little on the nervous side with other dogs and people. My older dog had to be put down about three weeks ago, and now I find the nervous problem with Alfie seems to have grown - he shies away from people - stops dead in his tracks if he sees another dog out whilst walking and wont move. To try and overcome this I am now taking him back to dog obedience class for socialisation with other dogs and walking him into town to get him used to meeting/seeing people. Any other suggestions for building confidence would be much appreciated

Sorry, I have no advice for you, but just wanted to say that I'm sorry to hear about your older dog. And that I hope you get some good advice from the more experienced owners around here.

Sorry to hear poor Alfie is having a few problems at the moment, and also sorry on the loss of your old dog, it sounds like Alfie used your old dog as his confidence booster and is now missing him too, Alfie needs to get over his grieving period and I think going to socialising class is a good move also trying to carry on with a normal routine without overly fussing him, ressure him when he is a good boy and such like ... which I'm sure you do anyway!.....

Hopefully in time you will be able to return some of his confidence and I know  COL members will give you some good advice......
