peeing on th carpet EVERY night
« on: May 11, 2006, 06:05:20 AM »
We have been away for a week and because of the timing with Dills arrival we got a dog sitter in so that he would have as much continuity as possible.  When we got back there were several 'puddle' marks on the carpet (we only have carpet on the stairs and bedrooms).  I have cleaned them with biological washing liquid so I dont think they still smell.  BUT - we have been back 2 nights now and both mornings we have woken to a new puddle at the top of the stairs  ph34r

I think it is dill rather than daise but obviously cant be positive.  OH is understandably getting a bit tetchy about it - we have only had the carpet since october.  He (Dill not OH!) wasnt doing this in the 2/3 weeks before we went away (he did when he first arrived and was out of his crate) so I know he can be ok.

So my question - do you think he'll go back to being dry through the night - is it just a blip on the landscape of cocker ownership or shall I trade him in for a ferrett now??

Any advice appreciated by both me and my carpet  ;)

i reckon it's a blip - he got out of routine without you being there...BUT!  it's now a habit for him and you'll have to break it.....i don't think it's daisy...

back to potty training i fear... ph34r

Well after meeting him in april you must certainly should not trade the lovely Dill in for a ferret he is too loveable :luv:

We use Shelley's Carpet spray available from Scats and this has stopped Snoopy repeatingly having accidents on the carpet, we have also used Bitter Apple Spray on the same spot where he has had little accidents whilst we've been out and this works as a deterant.

Might be a silly question but does he do this during the day also?   Could he possibly have an infection and that's why he can't hold himself all through the night?

Sorry not much help just wanted to make sure you didn't trade him in for a ferrett, I'm sure Rachel will have something to say about you trading Dill in too :005:

Hi Sarah, I was only wondering last night where you had got to....
Am sure the poor boy is just a bit unsettled with you not being there, so like the others have said, back to potty training....

Have not met Dill yet, but I do know that ferrets smell, so stick with Dill!!  (it is that name, any dog with that name is just too cute...)

I can certainly facilitate the swop; I'm sure I could find a ferret from somewhere, in exchange for Dill, puddles and all  ;) :005:

Can't really help with the puddles though Sarah - could he be drinking more cos its warmer, do you think?

I was wondering where you were too!   :D

First thing I would say is check for a small infection - could be that he can't quite hold it for 8 hours?

Secondly I would go back to basics. He has had quite a bit of upheaval in his life and then with you guys leaving when he just got used to you (not trying to make you feel guilty - just thinking out loud   ;)) I think it could be a bit of everything.

I'm sure it won't last.

Actually, probably best to get Daisy checked for water infection too - you never know.

Welcome back    :D :D

Oh, and thirdly - when are you going to change your sig - we want to see Dill!!!!
